Went to the show in Minneapolis today, last year Yamaha wasn’t there and this year they were not there again.
, BMW, Harley Davidson, Suzuki, Can Am, Indian, all had very nice displays. I believe Honda probably had the biggest display there.
In general to me it seems like attendance was down this year but at least for me that made it better because it wasn’t so crowded.

I went to the bike show in Toronto in January....wall to wall people. All of the big names were there, but this show focuses on custom bikes, old bikes aftermarket items. Worth a visit and very close to the Toronto International airport.
On the 15 - 17th of February there's another MC show on at the Enercare Centre which is located close to the downtown. This show focuses primarily on new bikes all all brands will be there.
Unfortunately, the wife and I will be away on vacation.

Indy used to be a good show. Too bad they stopped it.
From what I read, overall ridership is down generally. It's demographics..as we, meaning those in our age group who are riders are aging. I'll be 69 in June, so I'm hoping to ride for as long as I safely can. Sadly, the insurance companies are the dictators. Young single men in particular are charged exhoribtant rates to insure a motorcycle. I pay more to insure my Tenere than I pay for my Subaru SUV....just sayin

Just got home from Minneapolis. 8 in our group ages maybe 55-74. Was a little disappointed in the show as we spent 7 hours driving round trip and spent less than 3 at the show.

I went to the Minneapolis show this morning too. Almost sad! I was looking forward to the Yamaha display. They had one e-bike under a tent and no information nor representatives!? Oh and one motorcycle (an FZ?) strapped to a device to allow new riders to experience motorcycling. I’ll skip next year.

I thought the show sucked, I went Saturday. That was not a "Harley" display. The factory was not there. That was I believe St Paul HD on their own. Vendors down in general. All around the perimeter of the show floor there was 20 to 40 feet of unused space. A few years back it was wall to wall. No stunt riders this year either.

I was able to swap a few No Mar items under warranty saving shipping costs. So that at least evened me up on the ticket price. Now about the $10 parking....

Same exact setup for Yamaha at the Dallas show and from what I heard the same at all the IMS shows. In Dallas there was about 3 maybe more Harley setups and a big Indian setup. Triumph and Ducati were missing as well. These shows are generally lame. Nothing one can't see at a dealership.

Show was weak. Not a single kickstand dealio giveaway at any of the booth! WTF? I did get a couple of neck buffs though.

I stopped going years ago. Same story, the last two that I went to had shrunk to the point of "what's the use?". Once upon a time, the Ft Worth Convention Center was packed with ALL the bike manufacturers AND the accessory vendors.

A friend that worked at the show for two days said BMW factory was not there, the very nice BMW display was put on by a dealer or dealers the same as Harley. I hope the show keeps coming to Minneapolis but I wouldn’t be surprised if the whole IMS shuts down sometime.
Sure you can see a lot of the same stuff at various dealers but I have always enjoyed being able to spend a day seeing it all in one place.

I lived in PA for a lot of years. Great local dealer puts a charter bus together and for the price you get show tickets, coffee and donuts, a 3 hour bus ride with like minded cycle nuts to New York show. He always sells out Sat and Sun with a target to break even at best. It was always a great time. Over the years I took my son, my Dad and friends. I have asked my local dealers if they ever thought about doing that for the Chicago show. They look at me like I have a third eye.

I used to go to the Chicago show, always a good turn out to get a MC fix in the dead of winter. Now in Atlanta and the Progressive show doesn't even come here, there is a smaller show (local dealers etc) but too spoiled now to go - plus I'm pretty content with my ST!

Yamaha Corp rep at the single bike stand (learn to ride/shift on a treadmill) said they only do Chicago and LA.

I can understand a big show in the sunbelt where year round riding is a pleasure. Like said above and stats elsewhere motorcycle interest has wained with gen x and millennials I think dealers are scrambling to figure out a market direction.

Annual roving Trade shows in general are dying. Even commercial Trade shows are way down. The ones that are stable seem to be unique (Fab-Tech) or occur on a semi or tri-annual basis (IDDBA). I have seen multiple trade shows shrink to the point where they end up combining with other somewhat related trade shows that are also shrinking. Could this be related to the beating retail has taken the last few years?

I think the Motorcycle show is going the same way

I was there also. Very disappointing to say the least. I go mainly to see all the new stuff that our dealers won't have out for a couple months. It used to be a nice break in the middle of winter.

Not motorcycle shows in particular, but trade shows in general have mostly moved to Vegas and Orlando. By 2020, there will be a trade show in Vegas everyday of the year. And corporate meetings are way up, last year was my busiest since going freelance, and this year promises to be even busier!.
