If someone has the need to put a metal valve, with nut outside, and does not want to retouch the rim, so that the nut enters, there is another type of valves and nuts, it is a question of looking for them. maybe you can retouch the faces of the washer

I bought this set and they don't fit. The Tenere wheel has a machined spotface and straight 12 mm bore, this valve stem has a tapered seal that would likely get cut by the edge of the bore as the nut was tightened.

I used 45 degree metal stems in my 2013 Tenere for 3 years without any trouble, they worked great for checking or adding air. But then I took the rear wheel to my local dealer to have a new tire mounted, they somehow managed to damage the valve stem so it leaked so I had them put in a straight rubber stem because that’s all they had. So far I haven’t had to change tires on the new 2018 but I will probably just stick with the straight rubber stems.

Everyone should have one of these to carry on their bike. This extension hose will allow you to put air in your tires no matter what kind of air chuck you run across on the open road. Not a bad idea. I always keep CO2 and mountain bike pump on my bike.

Or, you could replace your stubby and annoyingly hard to reach OEM rubber stems with the easily reached 90 degree steel ones I posted 2 years ago, and not have to carry around any just-in-case band-aid solution to a problem that shouldn't exist in the first place. Unlike your statement when we were discussing this years ago, you have nothing to lose, and much to gain. To wit, I used that exact part you listed there because I couldn't reach the stock stems with any of the chucks I owned. About 6 months in, I went to use it while on a ride in VA and it had developed a leak at the hose/fitting juncture. Luckily it was a small leak, so I was still able to re-inflate my tire.

To be clear, I have no problems with the short rubber stems in principle. The problem is that they are very hard to reach in this particular application. In fact, in over 30 years of riding it never even occurred to me to try any valve stem alternatives; I mean, why bother? But on the Tenere, it's an imperative IMO.

These stems will last forever, fit fine with no alteration of any kind, can easily withstand the extra weight of TPMS caps should you so-desire, and are easily reachable with no added attachments or specific chucks.

would something like these work ?

it is said to be 11.3mm stem diameter though and i've seen above mentioned 12mm hole in the rim ...

EDIT : In another related thread post i found the actual hole size is standard .453" (which is 11.5 mm not 12 mm ... so it seems sizewise these fit)

EDIT2 : mmm 30g per valve... looks to be on the VERY heavy side...

Enjoyed reading this thread even though it became a little off topic at some sections. Tied in well with my upcoming tire change and the YouTube video I watched this morning.

As usual, that was entertaining. Be very cautious of riding with anyone that carries all of those methods.... and not a mini compressor. :D And I loved that he never mentioned the minor detail of WHY you might find yourself with a low tire to begin with.

I can confirm that the short style Circuit Performance valve stems fit perfect with no air loss. I only got them because the Garmin valve stem mounted TPMS recommends only using metal stems. I had close to 5,000 miles using the system with my OEM stems but was always a little nervous. Install is pretty simple. I use some grease on the rubber and blue locktight on the threads. Over 2 weeks and still holding strong.

Yes Sir. The fit is really good. Just finger tight the first nut by grasping deep socket between fingers and hold the lower collar with needle nose on valve stem side to keep it from spinning. They come in sets of 4.

Got a stem valve blown at low speed (luckily)...was determined to replace then with sonething durable...I got a volvo truck metal valve to replace them...worked flaIMG-20210831-WA0008.jpgIMG-20210831-WA0009.jpgwlessly for both front and rear wheels..

If you're going to go the metal stem route, use one that has the nut on the outside. I would never use one that has the nut inside where you can't get to it to tighten it up. I sell tires for a living and I've seen too many of the nut inside stems leak. I only use the short 1" rubber stem changed at every tire change. JMHO, you're experience may be different.
