Thought I would do a short review of the MCCruise install on my 13 Tenere
Main reason for getting CC was 4 of us had been planning to do the Southern California Motorcycle Association 4 corners ride of the US. We recently just finished the ride on June 5 covering a total of 17,100 km and having the CC was very nice on those long, empty sections like crossing Texas, it felt like that state would never end.
As to how hard it is to install, for anyone comfortable with removing the tank, airbox and ECU that's about how far in you have to go. All connectors and terminals were correct along with the wiring length. It required a fair bit of paitence, especially removing/reinstalling terminals in the connectors and took me a full day to install but overall no issues.
Set up was pretty straight forward and the only setting l changed was the speed increase for each press of the acceleration button.
A little further looking on MCCruises site shows they offer an adapter cable so you could purchase and use the Yamaha OEM left switch unit for the newer Tenere instead of the switch unit they provide. A fair bit more money after you buy their optional adapter cable and the LH OEM switch mind you. I stayed with their switch and also didn't get the speedo correction option which is available to go along with the CC.
It got well tested in the rain and wind when the tail end of hurricane Alberto caught up with us on our final leg home in the mid west.

A few pics. of the unit and the install.

Thanks for posting BWC! Glad your trip went well, congratulations on completing the ride! I have had a Mccruise for my 2012 sitting in the shop...not yet installed as I was a bit reluctant to attempt the install. I think I will go ahead and dive in because it will not do me any good to leave it sitting in the box while I am out riding.

First off, welcome to the forum.
My understanding when I purchased this unit in April was that it's a new version of CC offered by MCCruise.
It uses the throttle by wire feature our bikes and many of the other Yamaha models have and is simpler to install along with less money than the previous version. So far I've been very pleased with its operation. The CC doesn't get much use with the local riding I do, but it was a big help on those long days in the saddle.

Thanks for the Welcome BWC....nearly three years a member and that was my first posts?!?! Guess I do more reading than writing. Love the resource here and more often than not I find myself thoroughly entertained by the ingenuity and creativity of the other members. Love the Tenere....the Warden likes the Indian (Roadmaster) and we both put many miles on a Ural Sahara Gear-up. I have the older style MCCruise...bought it from this forum in fact...still in the box it was a take-off from a 2012 with Altrider bars....just lack the time to get to it. -Steve-

Glad to hear yours is working properly, I installed one as well on a 2012 and haven't been able to get it to work reliably yet, did the install which was easy "I'm an aircraft mechanic", did the initial cal and setup which was also easy but when I engage it it either has slow uncommanded acceleration or is jerky and after a few seconds disables itself. I have brand new throttle cables and throttle tube and freeplay is set correctly. I'm frankly at a loss and apparently so are the MCCruise folks because there have been a few e-mails over the past 2 weeks and they don't have an answer either.

Madman, is yours the older version with the spool between the throttle cables and the throttle body? Or is it the new ride-by-wire one? I have had the spool version on my 2012 for years and it's been nearly bulletproof (except when ethanol gummed up the old style vacuum actuator). If you have the spool version, it sounds like something in the spool might be amiss.

No it's brand new I don't have the spool thing but it hasn't worked right from day 1 even though install and calibration went flawlessly, Tony from McCruise is gonna call me and we'll figure it out...... we hope.

Trying to decide between a gen 1 and 2, with the cc being the deciding factor.
Is the current version of the mccruise 100% dependable if installed properly, or should I go with the newer bike and factory cc?
Thanks.
Jack

The MCCruise is a nice upgrade for the 12-13 Tenere but your best bet is to find a 14+ model as there are some nice extras other than just the CC. Having the factory heated grips and the choice of buying either the standard or ES suspension model to name a few.
And welcome to the forum from the west coast of Canada.

Thanks for the welcome!
I don't care about heated grips, as I run Gerbing stuff when it's cold and the electronic suspension would be a waste in my case, as I'm a pretty conservative rider and have never taken exception to a stock suspension in over 10 bikes and 45+ years.
It seemed like some of the posts here made the McCruise sound a little problematic.

Let us know how it goes. I'm on the fence right now.
