I have a 2012 ST and would like to eventually upgrade the clutch basket to the 2014 model and also add the MC Cruise system. I wanted to get your opinion on which mod you would make first on a 2012? Thanks in advance for any input.

Having recently upgraded the clutch basket on my 2013 bike, do this mod first! Such a nicer riding experience now.

If you do a lot of highway riding I'd do the cruise first. If not, do the clutch basket. But you might want to add an ECU flash to your list if you haven't done that yet. Adds a lot of power and reduces the vibration that puts your throttle hand to sleep.

I have a Rostra cruise control on my 2012 but with the 14 basket and setting the CO to + 45 it is so smooth that I haven't turned on that cruise more than a couple miles in the last thousands , and that would be just to take a picture or eat something.

Thanks a lot for the feedback everyone. I think I will begin with the basket and then the cruise at a later date. I already had the ECU flash and that really helped.

If you are not sure about the procedure for clutch replacement on the S10, there is a great sticky on it, really makes the read worthwhile and would only take you 45-60 mins to complete the job.

If you are not feeling the vibrations, or it is not bothering you that the 3K RPM range, then maybe the cruise first? Not all have done the change since it did not bother them.

I replaced my 2012 clutch basket with the 2014 because I got the new one for the cheap "someone goofed up" price. I could barely tell any difference, and the difference I could detect wasn't all good. So I would only do that if the 3k to 4k vibes are a problem for you.

Thanks for confusing me even more everyone :) I don't really have vibes at the 3k after the ECU flash, but there are vibes around 4k and don't know if the clutch basket will make it much smoother. I did just install grip puppy's and those really help the throttle hand numbness after 30 min.

The very slight improvement I noticed with the new basket was 3k to 3500. I actually noticed a very slight increase in handlebar buzz over 4k. The difference I saw was so slight that I probably could convince myself it was imaginary.

It appears that gen 1 baskets affected differently across individual bikes. Mine got worse as the mileage increased, and it wasn't really through the bars, it was through the bike, but a deep vibration and not a peg/bar tingling vibration. Chudder is a word I've heard used to describe it, and it does perfectly IMO. Higher gears, lower speeds were a no on the original basket.
With the new basket installed I could tell the difference just on start up and how it picked up on the revs, quieter and quicker. Riding it was even more pleasing, smoother, higher gears/lower speeds are now comfortable, just better in every way.
Pre change over I'd just been on a 2500 mile trip to and around Scotland and it irritated the life out of me. Post change over I did 5000 miles around Europe, so much better to ride. Mine wasn't a slight improvement, it was night and day.

I suppose it all comes down just how bad you bike is with the original basket.

I wasn't terribly bothered by vibrations around the 3K range on my 2012, but I went ahead and changed the basket anyway. The change for me was noticeable, and made the Tenere feel more like my FJR.

The Gen I vibes increase more noticeably after 50k miles. Mine started around 35k or so and by 50k I was trying things to improve. I changed to the gen II clutch basket at 83k and it was a great improvement.

For those of you commenting on your change to the Gen II clutch basket, please state the mileage at which you did this. It's more indicative of how much vibration was there to begin with.

Mine was 16/17k miles when I changed the basket. Definitely got worse after about 12k.

Changed mine at 24000 miles. It made it a little smoother but mine wasn't really annoying me. Also put in a 2014 OEM cct while I was at it. The cct had got me nervous after seeing a catastrophic post or two. Ain't heard a rattle since. Are the new mccruises plug and play?
