WOW.....MSRP for #23P-84312-01-00 is $91.88. I hope they do a recall on this.

MSRP has always been around $90 to $95 for the headlamp sub-harness. Yamaha didn't raise the price for the new, updated harness. And considering what different wiring harnesses usually go for this one is actually priced quite reasonably.

Have you had a problem with your current headlamp sub-harness? If so, then I'm sure Yamaha will replace it under warranty for you. If not, then I wouldn't worry about it.

Just my two centavos... ::021::

Thinking that was the problem with my Super T not having any headlights I purchased the NEW sub harness... they call it a cord. I checked the price on http://www.yamahapartshouse.net/ and it is:

. .Cord Assy
23P-84312-00-00 23P-84312-01-00
$67.07

So I told my local dealer and they matched the price. it was here in 4 days and I paid that plus NC tax.

It didn't fix my problem... I may have a bad ECU... check out this thread: http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=9859.msg164327#msg164327

I can see some definite differences in the wires in the old "cord" compared to the new "cord". I may just replace it AND keep the old for a spare since mine has not melted... yet. ::010::

Dallara, the oil filter number change is due to manufacturers.

-020, Japan
-050, Thailand

The price of -050 was increased by $.57.

Information from the dealership I frequent.

Tried to add the following parts - i.e. ones necessary to retrofit a 2012-2013 Super Tenere with the 2014 model's adjustable windscreen - to the "Maintenance Items, Part Numbers, & Accessories" list on the first page but the idiotic, moronic forum software will no longer allow me to, saying the original message "exceeds the 2000 character limit"... ::)

Funny, there was no such limit when I first posted the list, and now that same lame forum software, the same one that makes posting so much different, slow, and clunky compared to just about any other forum on the planet, won't even allow me to edit that original posting... If it wasn't so bizarre it would be hilarious! ::025::

Anyway, here's the Yamaha part numbers I was trying to add:

Parts Required to Retrofit 2014 Windshield Adjustment Mechanism to 2012-2013 Super Tenere:

Washer, Plate - (4) - 90202-05180-00
Nut - (4) - 90202-05180-00
Stay, Side - (1) - 2BS-2831U-00-00
Stay, Side - (1) - 2BS-2832U-00-00
Bushing - (4) - 90386-07MA2-00
Washer, Plate - (2) - 90202-07015-00
Bolt, Button Head - (2) - 92017-06016-00
Washer, Plate - (1) - 90201-06021-00
Gasket - (2) - 90430-12072-00
Washer, Plate - (4) - 90201-123F2-00
Stay, Guide 1 - (1) - 2BS-2831E-00-00
Nut, Adjusting - (1) - 2BS-26383-00-00
Cap - (1) - 2BS-28349-00-00
Stay, Main 1 - (1) - 2BS-2831R-00-00
Clip - (2) - 99080-03600-00
Bolt, Hex Socket - (4) - 90111-05021-00

I doubt I'll be posting any updates to the "Maintenance Items, Part Numbers, & Accessories" list from now on. If the forum software won't allow edits to the original post then it doesn't seem to make much sense. My apologies that I will no longer be able to update part numbers, change supplier links, add new oil filter measurements, etc., etc., but remember, it's not my fault. If you want to see the list continue to be updated and kept at least somewhat current then ask the forum administrators to change that character limit, etc.

Hope this helps! Thanks!

I came back to consult this list for the umpteenth time today. Dallara, who generously created this post and updated it for a long time, ran into a 2000 character limit on the size of a post and could no longer add to it. That, and the fact that he no longer plays here, means this list is languishing. A lot of work went into it and I think it's worth maintaining.

To the moderators: Is it possible to let other members update a post that they didn't create? Maybe we need a wikipedia kind of mechanism for reference lists like this that evolve over time. Is that possible?

Only moderators can modify any post, so it would have to be one of us or Dallara to edit the first post. When I have a bit more free time, I'll go through the links (I know most of the WASP-Motorad links are dead). In the mean time, feel free to add to this thread with anything relevant you might find.

EDIT: it appears we have a 2000 character limit per post, so the initial post can't be edited by anyone without removing a large amount of information.

This is great.

Is there any reason why the Castrol Power RS Racing 4T 10W-40 isn't listed?

I've used it previously with a Tiger 800XC and now I'm using it with my S10. Always in combination with a K&N 204 oil filter.

The oil is a MA2 and now on the list.
Thanks

If/when a skid plate is installed, we've learned to be careful about two oil filter dimensions.
1. The overall length can interfere with some skid plates.
2. The internal free length may be insufficient for the threaded spindle, meaning that the filter will not seal.

Lol, I haven't proved it won't blow up the engine on the S10. I've only had it in there for about 300 miles. Never had any problems in other bikes though. Just wanted to clarify.

Hmmmm... :-\

Interesting how a post I have *NOT* been able to edit in months was suddenly "edited" by a moderator, and all without my knowledge or any notification that it was being changed. Up until now there was a character limit that would not allow me to edit the post in any way, but now an oil I would *NOT* have put on the list has been added... Was any of my original post deleted to do so? If so, what was cut? Perhaps no one else would be interested in that info, but I might.

Does this mean that any moderator can edit any member's posts without their knowledge? How then do we know that what is posted on this forum is - indeed - what the original poster intended? None of my original post was offensive or profane in any way, so why would it be edited by the "moderators"? Does that mean if a "moderator" prefers "Product X" over the original poster's "Product Y" he can arbitrarily insert his own preference in anyone's post?

Boy, that's a very, very slippery slope... :-[

Two things:

1) Yes, practically all forum software allows moderators, supermoderators, and administrators to edit posts (depending on how permissions are set by the owner) and not notify users of changes. This is standard across vBulletin, SMF (which this forum uses), and others and is a practice that is fairly common.

2) Why would you not list that Castrol oil?

Hello Dallara -

First off, I think you meant to type "how a post I have not been able to edit in months" and will respond from that perspective.

As far as I know the 2,000 character limit still exists. Regardless, you have not posted here in a very long time and had not been doing maintenance on that list, so I deleted the upper line of text stating that you would keep the list updated both because it was redundant to the same line at the end, and because you hadn't. That created the character space which the oil entry went into.

As for moderators being able to edit, it happens in any forum. If you don't believe that, place links on ADV to this forum and you will later see the links disappear. I'm not complaining about them doing it because is in the posted rules over there. Likewise, most folks never realized that the same happens with short phrases within posts on ADV, and to many of the short posts like "Thanks" or an emoticon which just shows a guy munching popcorn. AvGeek and I don't want to go that far and we try to keep this forum as close to what people post as possible. We usually only step in when personal attacks begin, and even then there is no requirement to tell the person posting. You and I have agreed on a lot of things over the years and disagreed on others. If the approach to how to moderate is one of the disagreements, such is life.

You did a great job in starting the reference number list and you clearly put a lot of time into it. Thank you again. But the title does not say "these are only the things Dallara approves of," which is what you now say is the case. You wrote that it was a list of helpful info, part numbers, and reference info, adding at the end that these were things you found worked.

I'm not going to tell people what to buy or not buy, even if you put some items in there which I think are inferior. The request was to add an oil which meets Yamaha's specs (which the Mobil 1 in your original list does not) and which I know some members prefer and use. (Do a search - I did.) So I added it.

If you don't agree with the list or no longer want your name attached to it, let AvGeek or I know and we'll create a new sticky. With all the work you did, I'd like you to keep credit.

And about that slippery slope - If you look at the end of the list, you will see that when we do edit, we leave a line of text stating that we so. This is because we also do not believe that ". . . any moderator can edit any member's posts without their knowledge?"

This is standard across vBulletin, SMF (which this forum uses), and others and is a practice that is fairly common.

2) Why would you not list that Castrol oil?

1.) I realize that forum software allows moderators to to edit posts, but that is *USUALLY* only done in cases where the content of the post is profane, insulting, derogatory, demeaning, inflammatory, or otherwise offensive. Like many here who were the very first members of this forum, I've been participating on internet forums since they first appeared in the ether to make USENET obsolete, so a history or capability lesson isn't necessary.

There is a certain *ETHICAL* issue of a "moderator" editing a member's post that is not in any way in violation of the forum's rules of conduct. Otherwise any "moderator" could literally change anything and everything you ever posted to reflect an entirely different context that you ever intended - and all without your notice or knowledge. Is that what *YOU* want?

2.) Should I simply list any and every oil anybody, anywhere wanted listed in *MY* post simply because they wanted me to? How about we list all the oils made in the proper viscosity? Or should we limit it to only JASO oils? Or wait, should they just meet what some "moderator" *THINKS* fits Yamaha's recommendation? How about that 2000-character limit? If we listed any and every oil out there that simply fit any of those criteria then the entire page would be filled with nothing but various oils! ::025::

Likewise, the the thread would inundated with tons of posts from folks saying "How come *MY* oil isn't listed?" or "How come you don't have my favorite widget on your list?" ::)

For the most part, the items on *MY* list are products that I personally have used, or measured, or someone I personally know has used successfully, etc. That's why they're on there, and not simply anything and everything I could find to list. I've used Yamaha filters and oil. I've used Honda and Kawasaki filters, as well as others on my list. I've used Mobil 1 oils in our CART, IRL, and Indy Cars for years, etc., so that's a certain number of products are on my list. Likewise, the filters you see with measurements are ones I actually *MEASURED* myself so one would know whether they will work with certain skid plates, etc. The items on this list were *NOT* arrived at lightly. I'm *NOT* saying they are the *ONLY* things that work... Just that they are the *ONLY* ones I felt comfortable putting on *MY* list in *MY* post.

As for Checkswrecks reply... I will respond to it later, but right now I have to go tend to a piece of lease property.

Ok, I now see that it is something YOU don't approve of. I was under the impression that the list was made up of things we know and have been proven not to break our bikes. Again, my fault for misinterpreting this. I was asking about the Castrol in case it was known to break our bikes for some reason, given that it is exactly the oil I have in there right now.

In other words, yes, I was asking how come my oil wasn't listed only because I was concerned that it was a no-no oil. That is all my concern.

About the rest, ethics, rules, and such, I'll leave you guys to it.

Newbie here. Just found this.....FANTASTIC!

The forum does have a lot of good resources and this thread is a biggie. Just be aware that some of the oil filters are no longer appropriate because the manufacturers have changed them. There's a thread about leaking oil filters. Dallara intends to update the list here but being summer, he has been busy with other things.
