my wife said don't come home with another bike , I'm thinking while she is in Seattle I can hide it at my neighbors house .... permission or forgiveness which is easier ?

good morning all. early to bed and like a chicken early to rise . but the coffee is good.
yesterday our Saturday ride was like most of our rides ,fun. not about speed or being great riders but being good friends enjoying the challenges that we find with the dirt bikes . building a few skills along the way is a great plus . I feel like I have improved as a dirt rider . the new Beta 300 rr race that has been so easy to ride gets a lot of the credit . I'm no longer waiting for the flame out or what I call the " stall fall " and having to pick myself up off the ground . it simply does not stall . I have surpassed the hours and milage of the honda , I purchased the honda on December 4 2018 traded it for the beta December 2020 , so had the honda for 2 years , put 125 miles on it . got to be a bike I dreaded riding "cause its going to dump me " and I really only took it out in the end because I had to . so switched to the Beta , had to start over , game changer . im ready to ride next weekend , keep my truck loaded with my gear so just load bike and go ..... I have had the Beta for 5 months and have surpassed the hours and milage of the honda I had for 2 years. and say what you will the recluse clutch is sweet . if I bought a new bike not sure I would buy the recluse (but I really like it ) at least not at first .... I enjoy the clutch challenge ( was getting pretty good on the honda ) if you have not tried a recluse you should . I still shift it like a normal clutch between gears ,its just that once in gear I don't worry about stalling the bike or having to hold the clutch in while stopped . easy .

Snakes , some people are not afraid some are creeped out of their minds by them .... beneficial to the Eco system that they are . beautiful creatures ,again yes they are . most around here are not a threat , rattle snakes are. now if left alone , let them go in peace ,im all about that . have not killed a snake in years (last one was under my house , had bit a couple of my dogs and I had small children at that time ) . some people don't feel that way .... farmers and ranchers see them as a hazard ( they will ruin your weekend if bitten ) and kill them on sight . now if your working the land to feed the world and that's your living you do what you have to do . I was 50/50 on shooting this snake , could not reach my pistol before carrot pulled his.
now for the story .... we were playing follow the leader on the trails and I was following carrot . he comes to a right turn at a tree but has to also go around a large fallen tree limb . when I get to the tree I see a nice hole that would allow me to go straight and get in front of carrot ... so I was stopped and considering my options and I noticed the tree had bright yellow roots , then a pile of something moved that was coiled up against that tree . my eyes quickly focused on a large ( almost 5 ft ) rattlesnake .... SNAKE I holler . carrot hears me and sees me pointing at the snake , pulls his revolver and 6 shots latter snake is no longer a threat . when wearing a helmet it is impossible to cover ones ears from the extremely loud muzzle blast and we are in the woods so like being in a room .
the second part of this story is after , everyone got on the bikes and proceeded to ride . well im still in position to ride through that hole by that tree . and I proceed . so I have to duck down under the limb and do this countless times but this time the limb grabs my Klim vest and holds me in the spot under that tree ..... so had I not hesitated and noticed the yellow roots and then noticed the rattlesnake I would have likely proceeded and been snagged next to a snake with my feet right next to him . im thinking that my very expensive M/X boots might have prevented a bite but not the heart attack from the adrenaline rush it would have invoked. so that is how life is at times , do I turn left or right , how many seconds in your day are you away from calamity ..... it could have been a bad end to a great day .
so every stick we saw looked like a snake the rest of the day .

I was raised around copper heads and rattle snakes and cotton mouths so I was taught at an early age to be aware and look. to this day I am always looking. On a trail ride one day I was the lead person. We had a good pace going along a river bottom. Tall weeds on both sides of the trail were tall. At the last moment I saw the biggest copper head I have ever seen in the wild. No missing it. I did a sort of bunny hop and gassed the bike lofted the front wheel and lightened the back wheel a bit to be as light as possible going over the snake. Sounds like a lot of trouble doesn't it? The whole reason was the feller behind me had been out on a bender the night before and was hung over and had no sleep. I really didn't want to see him crash on a pissed off snake that far into the woods! Another time we were just coming off a break and I told my boy that we are heading into rattle snake country. If you have to pee stay in the trail. Do not ride the bike off the trail into tall weeds and keep your eyes open. Of course going down a gravel road to the trail head he runs over a 60 inch rattler! It strikes at him but hit the back wheel. He was moving a pretty good pace and had motocross boots on. I asked him what he was doing? He said he thought it was a stick! Oh well lucky is as good and being good sometimes. Yes riding is a dangerous hobby and sport and we accept and try to manage the dangers the best we can but I could never imagine my life without motorcycles. Nelson Cousins said (The tragedy of life is not death, but is what dies in a man as he lives) I would not be living life without my bikes.

I appreciate the reminder of it being snake season guys. Just the other day I saw a rattler laying across the dirt road I was driving on. The rest of the drive I just pissed in the open.

Sounds like a hell of and adventure Terry right near home!!

Glad you are enjoying your Beta and the Rekluse clutch. I have been using Rekluse clutches for 15+ years. They have advanced so much that shifting is seamless. The adjustments are almost endless. Depending on what weights, springs, or slave adjustment you use. The cool thing about your bike is it's setup just for you and your riding style.

BTW Terry, I just love that picture of your riding buddy and the cow just cruising along together. The cow seems to enjoy the company!!

I had a snake shit all over my arm once. Oddly enough, the poop was white, but stank to high heaven. Drove into a field and threw him into some bushes.

They ( snakes ) have a gland like a skunk in a sense . Not sure rattle snakes share this with the non poisons snakes ( not going to hold one for obvious reasons) even a snake can be a tasty meal to some predator out there so smelling really bad is a defense for a lot of creatures. Even snakes. Red Tail hawks will prey on snakes when given the chance even poisonous snakes. And there are snakes that prey on other snakes . It’s really bad out there .

As far as the cows go , they are pretty used to motor vehicles and are pretty calm around the bikes. But we try to keep out of their comfort zone . Don’t need to stress them . Older cows are pretty calm the younger cows can run pretty fast , and I’m a slow rider you know .

Yeah, I'm not sure what kind of snake it was. But, it was striking at glass with kids behind the glass. Grabbed it behind then head, which caused to curl around my arm, and start pooping on me.
