Don't feel too bad Terry. I'm in the same boat for different reasons. Just make sure you put some fuel stabilizer in it and start it once in a while.

One thing you can do do improve trail riding skills is just swing a leg over and practice track stands and foot dabs. When you have time of course. My Jimmy Lewis off road class gave this simple drill for us to do at home that really works on balance and is fairly safe.

Yes and I'm admittedly biased toward Jimmy Lewis. His training is awesome and very helpful.

seems we will be getting a cold front this week that will bring temps down in the low 80s , good riding weather street or dirt . so crf450x will be dusted off soon and back to trail riding . hopefully.

Nothing going for me either. I have sadly fully serviced, topped off tire pressures, and cleaned both my Beta and Super Tenere, and GMC Sierra. I added fuel stabilizer, and will be starting them all about once a month. The Beta and Super Tenere are on lithium battery tenders. GMC is on a cheap solar battery maintainer. Good news is they are all in perfect repair, service, and detailed.

I am now reduced to doing resistance exercises, stationary bike, swiss ball, and balancing board. About the only thing missing is a 10lb medicine ball. All the dumbbell's are in the corner gathering dust. Doctor and physical therapist said no weights.

The saddest thing will be no more high impact exercises for the rest of my life. Box jumps, burpees, jumping jacks, stair climbers, etc are no longer. I'm hoping to get an electric assisted mountain bike when I'm all healed. The Trek Rail is looking really attractive.

This is one time I will be listening to all my doctors and medical professionals. Knee replacements just don't last with high impact. And I am considered very young to get them. My plan is to get really high quality knee braces and stay off the hard core trails like this one.

I'm the one making the stupid crack joke in the background:

This will be my vehicles lives for about the next year or so:

Fantastic Day at the MX track today.
About 60 to 70 riders.
My boy was the fastest one their.[easally] He is the only one that passed me.
I didn't take many pictures , I was riding a lot.

Here is my boy riding Dakota's bike

What a contrast of riding conditions. Me being injured and bikes in storage. Then we have Steve and his kids tearing it up at the track. And even when I'm healed I don't see myself catching air like that. The risk of serious injury is too much.

At this track it's not the serious air that is risky, This track has the fastest back straight of any track I have ever been on. My boy estimates that it's over 60 mile an hour on rutted deep tilled soil.
I'm in 6th gear for a long ways, a crash back there would be real bad. I like it because most riders are scared to hold it open for that much speed.

My boy just posted this on his Facebook page.

Riding a dirt bike might seem like something for kids to go do. But to my Dad and I, it has been quality time together, intense exercise, affordable fun and a bond that helped maintain a good relationship between us even through my teen years when many Dads are not cool enough to want to spend every weekend with. 63 years young and still going strong. I Love you Dad! That's him in the lead...

so a quick update ... X still parked , still blazing hot here in Texas and I've developed a desire to stay out of the heat lately unless water is involved .
have a big bike ride planned for ft. Davis Texas in 2 weeks so getting my bike and gear ready for that trip .... 3 of us riding for 4 days 1200 plus miles expected , hopefully it will cool down just a bit in November here.

We have the first front that's going to drop us into the 60s on Saturday. Back to mid-80s Sunday. Then, a second front puts us into the 50s for a couple of days, starting Monday. That second front is probably going to really get y'all real cold.

Well I have a future bucket list ride coming up. I have decided to tackle the CABDR. Another command decision is to do it on my Beta. (if doing the full route). According to reports of others that have done all the BCDR rides and my personal experience on some of the sections, this is the toughest of tough for the big bikes. The first section alone is over 6 miles of super deep sand. Some of it in tight winding canyons.

My plan is to go big on fuel/tools and light on gear. Motel camping along the way. There are about a half dozen parts of the ride that I would consider expert only on the big bikes. 270 miles to start of trailhead, 820 miles route total, and a 325 mile freeway ride home.

As I do more research my might take the Super Tenere and bypass the hard sections. I ride for fun. Crawling over rocks, long stupid sections of deep sand, dropping and lifting my bike, breaking bones, and trashing my 600+ lb bike does not appeal to me.

Now I just have to heal for the next year or two..........
