so yesterday I rode my tenere to church , it felt right under my butt . but am looking forward to riding the X again soon. so a little more info on my X , it has 19 miles on the clock . put gas in tank to see how much I have used , 1 gallon to fill , hmmm, 19 mpg . makes my 6.4 liter hemi ram truck seem down right frugal . I average 17.5 highway in the ram.

I agree about the MX Vs. Enduro bikes, two different animals altogether. When I get around to adding a trail bike it will have a plate and lights. The YZ I had was setup for ice racing so it was geared a little high when I got it but sprocket changes helped out a lot. Just to have a bike that would be great in sand, easy to pickup would be great for the days upon days of trails right outside of my doorstep. A funny thing is that I can ride on the streets towards the west and not run into a traffic light that I would have to stop at for more than 200 miles!

Do you consider enduro to be dual sport? Nowadays manfacturers have the bike segments divided more. Today's enduro is more of a race bike. Honda's example below:

CRF450R MX
CRF450RX Enduro
CRF450X Trail
CRF450L Dual Sport

The R (MX) and RX (Enduro) models are the most similar.

there is another place to trail ride ive been told near jarrell but not sure the name or exact location , because the person telling me could not remember either. I will find out. so here is a list of bikes you might consider Butterthebean, DRZ400 , DR650 ,XR650 , CRF450L any of the KTM EXC bikes , all are street legal dualsports . the japeneses bikes being less expensive and more reliable , and if you want an off road only then anything that's not a MX bike will work , all of the makes have competition enduro's to consider . now if your going to do MX then get an MX.

I'm not far from Jarrell. I need to check into the trails there. I've mostly been going over to fort hood and riding there. They have miles of dirt roads and trails and it's the hilliest terrain in the area. I've only barely begun to explore it on my Super 10 when I realized I'd have way more fun on a smaller bike.

those first 3 Japanese bikes new are at 7k or less in price , got my X for 6300 plus tax title etc ,so out the door for 8k. not street legal so no insurance required , but insured it anyway just in case. I intend to try and get it platted soon , we will see. Silver bullet , I was not trying to nail down any category to place the bikes in , when I was a teenager plated dirtbikes were enduro's ,now dual sports . some call the X a competition endure (auto correction will not let me spell endur o ) so honda has the X, RX, R …. the X is the trail bike of the bunch for sure . I had a dr650 before the tenere , great bike but heavy . and since the tenere is such a great street bike I really don't want another , so that's why i chose the X . if I get it platted im not planning on riding on the streets other than gravel and crossing the highways legally . if not platted then it will be for trail use only, and im ok with that. I tend to call dual sports enduro's out of habit I guess...

What I mean by an enduro would be a wr450f and a dual sport more like a wr250r. I want to ride trails for 6-8 hours then jump on the pavement to get home within a hour. The wr450f would need to be made "street legal" but still be a enduro. I would not entertain the idea of racing in an enduro event I'm thinking along the lines of having maximum off road fun.

bigbob, the tractor is a 841 ford , has the 172 ci gas engine , and it runs quite well . sometimes on start up it smokes ,I think it has leaky valve guides and it soon goes away. pulling a 6ft brush hog has enough power to handle grass as tall as the hood with out bogging down. found it in east Texas , 4 months later Carrot and I went to get it ( carrot is a mechanic who specializes in farm tractors ) the man I bought it from was a character , 80 year old Cajun . the tractor was built in 1958 same year as me . got it home and replaced all fluids made a few repairs ( about 400.00 in total cost and I need a new front tire now at 120 ) and this expense is over the three years I have owned it. it will be for sale some day and the cool thing about the tractor it does not go down in value , so I will get my money back for the most part when I am done with it. I like tractors in Texas these fords go from 1500 to 4000 the average 3000 depending on model and condition.

At least you are being honest. I feel as some prices posted as OTD don’t include sales tax and other fees. It sounds like you got a great deal. The dealer deserves to make money. It’s when they quote a price on the phone or floor and then add on fee after fee in the paperwork that’s crooked. It’s also a sad thing anymore that the tax commission probably made more than the dealer and they didn’t do anything.

no reason not to be , the price is different than out the door price which is the total of the transaction . had I chose the 12000.00 ktm the out the door price would have been about 13500.00 , I was leaning toward the ktm except for the price . also honda financed me 100%so I could spend that down payment money on Christmas . just couldn't quite commit to that much money for the ktm. . the honda actually is smoother running than the ktm . I have ridden the neighbors 500 exc ,hads lots of engine vibration . so im liking the smooth honda. so not being street legal means I can not just jump on it and ride the hood , I have to plan when I can take the honda to some place were I can ride it. that slows things down , a friend has a place near by with about a 100 acres that said he might let me start riding there and its only a couple of miles from here, but we will see. and the premise that im not as heavily invested in this bike should I really stink at this. that's why I bought the honda.

so there are days where I might feel like today is a day to ride , problem is how to get it to the riding area . I bought a ramp so I can load at the house but I have to back up to a large mound in the backyard to keep it low enough to load safely . never much thought the ram 2500 4x4 would be an issue but it is . to damn tall on level ground to push the bike up the ramp safely or to unload the bike especially by ones self. the 7.5 ft ramp is to short to lesson the angle. so I am thinking of buying a new trailer , something small for the bike . I have a 18 footer for my tractor and I might have to start using it in the mean time , but might look a little much with a puny little dirt bike on it. but the floor is 12 inches off the ground not 41 inches of my tuck , and that is stock height ,no lift . I talked to a guy using 10 ft ramps at the track ( his truck was lifted and taller than mine ) and he said works great but has never felt very safe in using them . so I exploring small trailers now, and so it goes.
