I was at the dedication. Listening to the stories by the dignitaries. Very well done. After it was over I walked over and read the plaque. Whaaaat. Ask the guy in charge about the plaque and explained the mistake. Oh well I guess they’re going to run with it . My wife a Baylor grad was in embarrassed. And today it is the same a year later.

Hundreds of Americans killed and production of oil was stopped for a couple of weeks. That’s not a successful mission. That’s a tragedy.

Different times. Different standards. We lost 1,921/2,401 soldiers in Afghanistan over 20 years, and that is considered horrible. In WW II, there were single battles with many more casualties.

we are insulated from death .....
even with our food . meat comes from the store (not a farm ) .
as I read the plaque (not taking away from the heroism of the man ) but the slant of the story that this mission was in anyway a success is just not true. Baylor should have and could have done better.
may yet write a letter to the university , or maybe the local (Waco) paper.

Made the pilgrimage to Moab. Just not on my Super Tenere. Reminds me of the White Rim trail adventure. Might do White Rim Saturday, as a couple of buddies on KLR’s are doing it. Have to see how tomorrow goes. Doing Pritchett canyon, Kane creek, and behind the Rocks. 70 for a high and 45 for a low. Can’t beat that for November.

Those 300’s are amazing. One was a new 2022, and I would guess the owner has close to 25k in the bike. All running mousse bib foam in the tires. Incredible where they will go. Rear tires last 200 miles.
If you look at the picture above the trail goes left up the rock steps.

And a history challenge. On the plaque is a story of a Medal of Honor winner from Baylor during ww2. Find the mistake that’s the challenge. View attachment 86363
I have read some on the bombing of Romania's oil refineries. It is an incredible part of world history and was a huge turning point of the war effort. yes Most of the bombers were B24 Liberators and they did a fantastic job. The most amazing thing is they did a new tactic on that bombing run that pretty much mean certain death for the service men that were in the effort and they had the balls and gusto to do the job. this bombing run was not done from 30,000 feet. they were done below the hight of the the refineries smoke stacks! they dropped so fast and hard to avoid radar detection that one of the planes in a squad actually rubbed its belly on the ground and recovered to deliver its payload. they had to pull up hard to miss the smoke stacks and the back planes had to fly through not only the flack and enemy attacks but the fire balls and destruction from the front bombers deployed bombs. It is a very incredible part of our history and worth every minute looking into that battle. I am amazed at the people who disrespect our flag and the these very men that gave more than they had to save the world and our county and way of life. they all have every bit of respect I have. Thank you.

I remember hearing about that generation being referred to as the Greatest Generation, back when I was a kid. I remember thinking that they didn't seem so special. As I got older . . . . and looked at my generation . . . . and the following generations . . . . I completely understood, and agreed. I can only imagine what they would think of current events. I didn't learn until I was in my 20s, that my grandfather, who I already had quite a bit of respect for, had been a member of Merrill's Marauders. He had always talked about Colonel Merrill, but, it wasn't 'till later that I put two & two together.

They really were special.

Mak the Moab pictures are awesome ... 20 years ago you were a younger man ,everything was easier. what's amazing is as an older man you still rock and not afraid to roll. the 300 2 strokes were made for that riding . you should get one (it will take 10 years off you) .
man I still have great memories of you baby sitting me through the white rim .... I just saw a video of the part we did in the dark (I'm thinking glad it was dark ) ..... keep posting my friend.
