I purchased my '18 ES about a month ago and have added most of the farkles needed for touring. Looking forward to some drier weather to actually ride the thing. Seems to have been an unusually wet spring here.

I have been following the Super Tenere since 2012 and wanted one for a long time. When they announced the update in 2014 I started to save money and finally get one. Winter arrived and I was planning my purchase and Triumph announced the updates to the Tiger 800. Kansas City dealer had one 2015 T800 XCX in stock, gave me an excellent trade-in on my Honda NT700, so I bought the Tiger instead. I didn't regret it, but every time I was on a long trip I kept thinking, "This thing gets worse gas mileage than a Super Tenere", or "I bet the Super Tenere is more comfortable"..... I did keep it for a couple years, but found myself riding the old DR650 more. Liked the Triumph, and loved the engine. It just wasn't a great trip bike for me. I make frequent trips to Kansas City and a round trip is about 170 miles. I would use the Tiger for those trips, but usually rode the DR650 around town (commuting) and multi-day trips.

I was able to start working from home a while back and the DR650 just sat. I sold it with plans to purchase a better touring bike. Things finally aligned and when I took the first ride from the dealer I was very happy. I live roughly 10 miles from the dealer, but even though it was a really windy day, the bike had 70 miles on it before it arrived home. I think it is better than I expected it to be. It is like combining the best aspects of my previous bikes into one single bike. Fits me great and seems like it will be more comfortable than the others too.

I added Bumot panniers, Givi Topcase, and Madstad bracket and windshield. I was getting buffeting with the stock windshield.

Skid plate and crash bars should be here next week.

I am almost ready to start some long trips again. :)

I have been lurking on this forum a long time and want to thank everyone. Because of this forum, I knew to grease the shift pivot and brake levers, knew how to properly check and change the oil (dealer overfilled by .8 qts), and knew how to properly check the spokes before I bought it. Some of this is in the manual, but reading it here was very helpful.

Will do the 1,000 mile maintenance next week. First multi-day trip planed for first weekend in June.

Thanks everyone who posted their experiences.

Welcome. I hung out here a long time before finally getting my S10, even went and rode with some of these folks. Fine bike, and a fine bunch of owners. I made the right choice, sounds like you did too!

Nice and welcome! I have to say I agree with all of this. Honestly, the S10 is the best touring bike I've ever owned. If you feel up to it and have a passport, this year's WeSTOC is in Calgary, AB. The gathering is in it's 24th year and while it started as a Honda ST1100 and 1300 gathering, most of us have moved on to other bikes (since the Honda ST isn't made anymore). There are quite a few of us that have switched to Super Teneres. Check it out and come to Canada for a week at the end of June and hang with us. :)
Website is www.westoc.org for the event details.

Welcome to the club. I saved my pennies for one in ‘16. I hate pushing it around the garage, but I love riding it.

Welcome and congratulations. I'm just down the road from you here in Lawrence. I've had my 15 es about 18 months now and have no regrets. I don't think that there are very many of us here in the mid west. But we do have lots gravel roads and the flint hills that nobody else in the world has. Enjoy your adventure.
