Hey yall! has anyone figured out how to get rid of that bothersome lurch when you engage the throttle without feathering in the clutch.. its very annoying on the twisties when after coasting you then have to throttle in and you get that damn lurch..

I flashed my ecu with anthony which eliminated the engine braking.. but this aspect remains..

thoughts?

Unfortunately that's a symptom of Yamaha's FI bikes and the fuel cut at zero throttle. Anthony flashed my '12s ECU and it helped a lot, but there is still a bit of the on/off switch effect. Sport mode is better than Tour...at least for me. The clutch is your friend.

How much free play do you have in the throttle cable? Try reducing that and see if that helps with the off throttle transition.

I've had the surge at 2k rpm for 6 years. I've got the avc flash and a pcv. I can set my mccruise at 2k and feel the lurch. Annoying as hell at parking lot speeds.

No coasting on the road. What gear? Always keep the drive train under a load, accelerating or decelerating. Keep the rpm up. Use the clutch. 2,000 rpm is just a place you pass through to get to 3,000 rpm.

Getting a surge at the wrong time in ruts or picking your way thru some rocks in first is a bitch. I've never had a bike with this. It's still my favorite bike tho.

yeah its a bummer.. My theory is that the fly wheel is too light to absorb the load of the pistons or the transmission when either engage.. its the way of the times I suppose.. still love this beast on the highway
