A group of us are developing a new product for the ADV travel market—specifically for riders who take longer trips. We hope this new product will open up more opportunities for ADV travel and make your adventures even more fun and rewarding—at least for some riders. We’re making this product because we wanted one and no one was making it. I ride a 2012 Super Tenere, and the prototypes will all be made to fit S10s (and a few other bikes).

We have a two-part questionnaire we hope you’ll take part in:
  • Part 1 - we ask about you, your S10, your travels, and your gear.
  • Part 2 - we show you a picture of our product, some info about it, and ask you some specific questions about it.

200 RESPONSE LIMIT & GIVEAWAY Of course there has to be something in it for you! We will take 200 answers and we will raffle off a $100 Visa gift card and a $50 Visa gift card.

It’ll take you 10 to 15 minutes to complete. Your answers and information will be kept in strict confidence—we will never share any information with anyone for any reason.

Filling this out now. Interesting.

Thoughts:

Badass idea and product concept

Chicago will always be home. Your avatar is why I clicked on this if im honest. My brother still lives in Pilsen. I relocated to Seattle but i miss the Chi.

You should consider renting your product to people to get reviews. I would totally spend a day with one and write up a review.

Thanks Gunslinger! We have definitely thought about the option of renting...we'll have to see. We have to get the prototypes built first! Hopefully we'll have them by Dec.

Hi all,

It's been interesting to watch the different ADV communities react to this survey. V-Strom banned me right away. BMW have not banned me, but the community have been somewhat hostile. The S10 and AfricaTwin communities have been the most friendly and have answered the questionnaire the most and been the most helpful, both with criticism and encouragement. KTM has been pretty quiet...maybe they're licking their wounds after the bad review of the 390 Adventure from FortNine.

To make the questionnaire more acceptable to others, we have removed the requirement of your name and your email. You have to give us your email if you want to be a part of the gift card giveaway, but if you'd just like to give us your opinion, no need for us to be able to reach you.

This has made me, again, very happy I own a SuperTen and am definitely going to buy some of those "Not a BMW" stickers I've seen in the vendor section!

I filled out the survey yesterday and wish you great success with the new trailer, I do have a friend that was talking about buying a somewhat similar trailer made by a different outfit to pull with his KTM, but it’s been over 2 years now and so far he hasn’t bought one, he does pull a very expensive trailer everywhere he goes with his Goldwing.

Filled out the survey. I’ve not really considered a trailer, but I can see the advantages of traveling with one when I’d be camping.

Thank you everyone. I know it's not a competition...I know...but we've gotten more Super10 owners to fill out the questionnaire than any other make. AfricaTwin is 2nd and GS is 3rd. I think it speaks to the culture of this forum and the people who buy Super10s. There has to be a PhD study in this somewhere...

We reached our 200 response limit, so we have closed the questionnaire. The $100 Visa gift card was won by a KTM rider in the US and the $50 Visa card was won by a BMW rider in the UK.

For those of you that didn't participate, the questionnaire was ultimately to get opinions on a single-wheel ADV trailer we are developing. It will look something like this:

Trailer-Drawing.png

A few fun facts from the questionnaire:
  • 94% of respondents were between 50 and 69 years of age.
  • By bike: BMW owners were 47% of the respondents, then in order: Yamaha (28%), Honda, Triumph, KTM, Kawasaki, and Suzuki. This breakdown has a lot to do with how well the post did on the bikes' respective forums. The BMW forum engaged with the post and it was shared quite a bit. Same with this Super10 forum. The others, not so much.
  • 79% of respondents were from the US, followed by 8% from Canada, then from all over the globe.
  • What do people currently use when they travel?
    • Hard panniers: 79%
    • Soft panniers: 36%
    • Dry bags: 52%
    • Horseshoe-shaped saddlebag: 2.5%
    • Top box: 60%
    • Tank bag: 64%
    • Bags attached to your crash bars: 7.5%
    • Plastic or metal tool tube: 7.5%
  • 41% of people who use hard panniers worry about being hurt by them in a crash.
  • 3% of respondents already own a trailer.
  • What people would possibly like to carry on an ADV trailer on a long ride:
    • Extra Gas: 33% (Lots of them ride GSAs...)
    • Tires: 21.5%
    • Water for drinking, cooking, cleaning, etc.: 29%
    • Additional spare parts: 13%
    • Additional tools: 16.5%
    • Additional food: 25.5%
    • Drinks: 15.5%
    • A cooler (ice or 12v): 23%
    • Heated clothing: 6.5%
    • Rechargeable battery for electronics: 11%
    • Solar panel: 16%
    • Better sleeping systems (tents, bags, etc): 21.5%
    • Rain cover for cooking and socializing in rain: 10%
    • Additional/different cooking equipment: 7.5%
    • Electronics (cameras, drones, laptops, tablets, etc): 8%
    • Better/different rain gear: 6%
    • Lantern or different lighting: 8%
    • Mountain bike (it's possible): 7.5%
    • Kayak (also possible): 3.5%
  • 12% of respondents said they would be interested in buying a trailer and 39% said they might be interested.
Thank you to everyone from YamahaSuperTenere.com who filled out the questionnaire. If you would like to be added to the mailing list we have for people who want updates on the trailer's development, visit this page and scroll to the bottom to add your email address (which will never be shared with anyone).
