The levers are the first to bend or break in case of falling. The market offers many options for this area, from foldable levers to short ones that won’t come in contact with the asphalt. But these ones cost at least $250 a pair. Let's look at Chinese levers. Before buying a pair for $50 or even less, you should learn that these nice looking levers may put your life in danger.
Imagine that you'll pull hard the brake lever and they'll crack. The Chinese levers are made of a low-grade aluminium, and they also have fitment problems. Stay away from them.

I had a pair of shorty Chinese levers on my Versys 1000 for 4 years. They fitted perfectly and performed faultlessly. That is just my experience, so speak as you find.

I'm wanting to develop two finger clutch control, but uncomfortable with ring and pinky finger between the OEM lever and handlebar.

I tried them, didn’t get on with them and put the originals back on. They looked good, but for me it was clearly a case of “fixing something that wasn’t broken”!
I had a Chinese set on my 2012 which worked great…….the set on my 2015 did not fit correctly even after some Dremel massage. I went back to the OEM and when I recently purchased my ‘21 S10 didn’t even think of replacing the OEM levers. I am sure Pazzo or other high quality/$$$$$ levers would work great.

I actually have a stock hybrid. I cut the end ball off mine and then actually contoured the clutch and the front brake for my fingers. (I also contoured and smoothed the end where I cut off the ball) For me, It gives me the leverage I want, but not the overall length I don't want.... When I contour the levers for my fingers its overall the best feel I can get and works great! Ive run these levers for 10 years.

Ive used shorties on plenty of bikes as Im a 2 finger clutch and brake rider. I picked up an almost brand new ASV shorty brake lever from a member.... Thought it weird it being sold so new.... I figured it out pretty quick first trip out the garage. Maybe ASV and a leverage issue at the pivot, but it severely affected front braking. Its still sitting on the floor. I reinstalled the OEM lever and I ordered up a standard ASV for the brake (running a ASV shorty for clutch).

Great! I was actually considering this before I saw your post. I was thinking about adding a ball back (JB weld?) after shortening. When you say contouring, did you add any bend or just smooth? Can you post or send some pictures?

Going the cheapest route for now, cost of some JB weld. Shortened OEM 1 ¹/²". I only did the clutch, the brake doesn't pinch the ring and pinky with a 2 finger pull. Going to let it cure overnight before trying it out.

No problems. I have considered some additional sculpting where it still hits the top of the ring finger with a two finger pull, and tapering the inside of the ball where it hits the outside of the middle finger. In other words, the length is good, but the end ball is too big and could be carved down. I did fill the hole with JB weld so it is solid for sculpting. Length is still good for three finger pull and no end ball interference in that mode. For reference I typically wear Revit 2XL Sand 2 Gloves, 1 XL other gloves.

Next time it's off, this would be the sculpting plan.
