So I was just looking to take a skills refresher riding course (Advanced Rider Course) and went to check out the offering at our local community college where I had originally taken the Basic Rider Course. Turns out they are withdrawing from offering motorcycle safety riding courses. The Illinois Department of Transportation is currently looking for another training center. I suspect this is related to an accident last year, when a lady was actually killed during a Basic Rider Course at the college. Unfortunate.

Yikes! She died during an MSF basic rider course? That's crazy. Freak accident I assume?
I just can't imagine how someone dies from instructor negligence on closed course with a top speed of 10-15mph.

That's what I would categorize as a freak accident and not instructor negligence.

I've seen lots of bikes dropped doing low speed maneuvers. I've even seen a person drop the bike after stopping because they forgot to put their foot down. They were all wearing a helmet and only suffered small scrapes and maybe a bruised ego. None of these would reflect poorly on the MSF instructors.

there was a young woman who was an active rider in our area ,wore the gear , had lots of talent . had a low speed fall hitting her head on the ground , and was wearing a helmet ..... she lingered in the hospital for weeks and then died .
lots of possibilities of why a small get off affected her so greatly .

I never saw any explanation or description of the accident, but it would sure be devastating to the instructors.

That's terrible. I had a friend once tell me he lost control in a learn to ride class. Said he almost hit a building. So I understand it can happen. But to think of someone actually dying is just tragic.
