I had the Congressional hearing on the radio while driving home in the truck today while Dr. Fauci and a couple of others were being questioned, then suddenly I think it was the Chairman who interrupted the proceedings. He said the social media was in an uproar because Dr. Fauci had changed masks, so he asked why and if something was wrong.

Dr. Fauci laughed and said he is a huge Washington Nationals fan and changed to show his enthusiasm for the team. LOL It was not the expected answer and got a laugh.

During the summer months (Colorado) Hwy 50 and south is mostly Texans in the summer. Makes sense they beat the heat of Texas and without them much off the area would blow away in the dust economically speaking. Met allot of nice people over the years from Texas. I was less enthusiastic about our southern friends when riding through Lake City yesterday. Went into the Soda Company that many of you have frequented before and it was packed and the only one wearing a mask was me. I know, I know, hard to eat ice cream with a mask on. But the waiting in line without the owner having any distancing guidelines and all the same tables crammed together was enough for me. The ice cream shop and the tourists cannot live without each other. Small sample of how this pandemic will run its course.

On a side note: If you are coming to the area bring your dust masks, it is bone dry and the camp fire ban and fire season are looming.

Ok, who had a Saharan dust cloud nicknamed Godzilla on their 2020 disaster bingo cards?

On a more optimistic note, a judge has ordered the state of Nevada to show cause as to why payments are not being made under the Federal PUA assistance for gig economy and 1099 workers ( a large portion of our work force here) by July 7th, or will be ordered to make payments immediately. Nevada "leads" the nation in unemployment, and even exceeds the US unemployment rate during the Great Depression. Our economy was booming here prior to the shutdown March 15th, but once again our over-reliance on one industry has lead to desperation...

It looks like most everybody is gonna get exposed before it's over. The younger people are willing to chance it for a good time. .Trump holding a rally was a STUPID move. But it's ok cause the goons are rioting

Yeah looks like the USA will win the coronavirus Olympics for sure. Gold medal all sewed up. I was hoping to visit next year but I don't think that will be happening. Australia will be flying bubble air routes with other covid similar countries but not the USA. Mexico might start thinking the wall is a good idea. I hope you guys can sort it out. Stay safe.

Yeah, the current administration has clearly shown the world how NOT to respond to a pandemic. Our leader has called it a badge of honor (2.4 million infected and 125,000 dead). As the virus spreads out of control, this administration just ignores it. The entire medical community must be so frustrated with the government's botched response. Other countries have shown that it is possible to control the virus, but not the U.S. I don't see how professional and college sports can be going ahead with plans to have a season this year. Even some high school and youth sports programs are starting up around here.

When I retired last year, part of the plan was to rent a bike in Toulouse again and ride Europe for a couple weeks. Even if I were willing to take a 9 hour plane ride with a few hundred others rubbing elbows, it looks like our leadership's delays and denials have screwed that plan up.

What really kills me is how many people still insist this is all fake news and a scam of some sort.

Anyone have a infection and death rate per capita chart? I haven’t looked at one for a couple of weeks, but at that time our per capita rate was pretty low comparatively. Don’t know if that’s still the case or not.

Its kicking off Worldwide even places they thought it was well under control. Hard to blame even our Government now for the way people are behaving. Give em Enough Rope as they say. Also the title of a very fine album by The Clash.

I haven't been watching the infection rate, but US death rate had been 5.9 to 6.0 %. now down to 5.1%.

I don't know how that compares to the rest of the world. For "youngsters" in my age bracket it is higher.

I shouldn't laugh but below is sample of the wording about this poor guys' 4+ hour erection . . .

"Doctors tried putting an ice pack on his penis but that didn’t topple the problem. When the problem got close to being four hours long, the doctors decided to erect a plan. Fortunately, it wasn’t too hard a problem to solve. They stuck a needle into the blood vessels of his penis. This wasn’t done for fun because needles in penis and fun go together like sewage and bed sheets."

The rest of it: https://www.forbes.com/sites/brucelee/2020/07/02/man-suffers-4-hour-erection-with-covid-19-coronavirus/#720bed9e517b

Now I really know that I don't want to catch this.

And of course Jason is back:

[This was in response to something OX-34 posted.]

Have to totally agree with you & guess this is people being people. Intentionally holding political rallies by the right and gathering for protests on the left somehow reminds me of kids daring each other to lick a pole in the winter.

I thought it would help when more people became aware that this is not like the normal flu, the fatality rate for older people was just part of the issue, and that we essentially will not be able to get to "herd immunity." People and the stock markets are pinning their hopes on a vaccine and ignoring that the vaccines may just be 50% effective.

The reality is how this is able to ruin the lives of young people and the rest of those 20-ish percent who get symptoms without dying.

Your being a doctor exposed to this daily, I do not envy you.

Is anyone else here receiving PUA (federal self-employed) benefits? Here in Nevada, there is a nearly 2-YEAR backlog processing these claims. They were using the census data (2010) and anticipating far fewer gig economy and 1099 workers, so they are claiming that anything above and beyond must be fraudulent. Now I know in my case, I was still a company employee, in another state, 10 years ago (I went freelance in 2014, and moved back to Nevada in 2016).

I had to make some decisions the other day, and am now one step closer to permanently closing my business; we canceled our insurance policies. I'm really hoping this new job works out, otherwise CW might be stuck here as the sole moderator!

That really suck big time!! You are not alone. My former employer decided to switch to make the company employee owned. I knew it was a scam from the beginning. I'm not an accountant but I know damn well it only benefits the owners. The company is now tax exempt, chopped the employees wages, took away free medical, and no more 401K with match. It's now only stock options they can buy into and employee paid medical with lower wages.

Yes, interesting read, but the current situation doesn't seem to back up his statements. He claims the virus is slowly retreating and the virus is gone for now. 15,000 new cases in Florida today. Many states setting new record highs. Refrigerated trailers in Texas and Arizona to store dead bodies in. 12.5 million cases and 560,000 deaths worldwide. Retreating, gone...I doubt it.

Interesting article - For Switzerland. Clearly the data shows the US and much of the world are in a different situation.
