Hey guys,
I received my order from Aerostich today, got a new Darien jacket and pants set. As long as I was running up the credit card, I also ordered some of their gloves. I have always had trouble finding gloves big enough, but these actually fit. I ordered a size 12, but an 11 would have probably fit too. They make them up to size 13. I bought the elkskin roper gloves for $49, they're nothing special, but appear to be decent quality. So, if anyone has trouble finding gloves that fit, check out Aerostich.

Magic, enjoy the Darien jacket and pants and the new gloves. I have used the Darien pants and jacket for 3 years now and also the gloves you mention from Aerostich. They have been the best gear I've used, the Darien pants and jacket being waterproof, comfortable and durable. The roper gloves are great for Wisconsin summers while the Aerostich gauntlet lined winter gloves work well for colder rides. Enjoy the new gear!

Their elkskin roper gloves ARE special! My favorite gloves!!! I've been wearing Aerostich (Roadcrafter and Darien) for almost 20 years. Good stuff!!!

This is my second Darien set and my first pair of their gloves. Allow me to rephrase part of my post. I should have said the gloves are nothing FANCY, but appear to be EXCELLENT quality. I was thrilled to find gloves that fit. I will be ordering more.

I wore Roadcrafter almost exclusively for many years. It also worked well for wearing over my street clothes when I still worked. Since retirement, I prefer the Darien as I wear it all day when riding. Started with the original and later went to the AD1's. Now on my second pair of them - thanks to an unplanned get off. O:)

Can you compare the AD1 to the Dariens? I have the Dariens now, but I'm losing weight. They might be way too big by the time I start my summer tour.

They seem to be cut better than the regular. A gusset in the crotch allows a bit more comfort. Not sure about the current Darien, but when I had mine, the AD1 offered Velcro on the front pockets whereas the regular did not and I found this helpful for keeping change/keys/etc from falling out of your pockets when removing the pants. It's a little thing I know, but I liked it. My first ones were black (all they had), but my new ones are gray - which I like better.

I like my Aerostich gear a lot. Have tried the roper gloves in both lined and unlined, 2 roadcrafter 1pc suits, a Falstaff jacket and a Darien Light jacket among others. The only gear I still wear is the roadcrafter. The gloves are a nice enough glove, but not great for motorcycle use, they will collect water like a sponge in rain, and in the unlikely event of a getoff at highway speed will peal right off. Anyone hit the road at 70mph? Well I have and will attest these gloves will come off in a spill at highway speed. The Falstaff jacket was like a lead weight and no good for my use, so sold it. The Darien light was too thin to be worth using without a liner, flapped like a sail in summer, then in winter was OK with the liner, but the velcro attachment points for all the pads are ironed on and fell off, so the pads could not be used. The only Aerostich gear that remains for me is the Roadcrafter suits.
Very true about that type of glove coming off very easily in a 70 mph crash, I hit a deer dead center with cruise control set at 70, I went over the handlebars, bike slid to a stop on right shoulder, deer also stopped on right shoulder about 50 feet in front of bike, the deer pretty much exploded, I stopped on the centerline about a hundred feet past the deer, the impact caused the joint in my left thumb to come apart so the bone was sticking out and the thumb was bent back about 90 degrees and that Kept that glove from coming off but the other glove came off so I got some serious road rash there. Since that accident I mostly wear my Held gloves, they have a long cuff with some very good Velcro to keep them from coming off, a little more hassle to put on and take off but the extra trouble seems very worthwhile now.

Cycledude That made my hand hurt reading it. I've been down on the road at 40 mph or so in blue jeans and a tee shirt before with no gloves. All I got was alot of skin damage at the time. I see these Held airstream 2 glove prices all over the place. Anywhere from $85 to$175 for what appears to be the same gloves. What kind do you have?

Aerostich has Elkskin Gauntlet gloves that have a retention strap. Velcro and I can attest to then staying on during a long slide down the pavement. The Aerostich Competition Elkskin Ropers also have the same style retention strap. Consider that over the regular Elkskin Ropers.
LINK $70 is cheap for quality leather riding gloves. I do wish they had better knuckle armor, but the gauntlet version is my go to glove for 40F to 70F. Hotter and I wear some no gauntlet perferated gloves with knuckle armor. Colder, the Klim insulated waterproof gloves come out.
