Something to think about. I replaced the plastic screws for the winglets with stainless steel replacements from the local hardware store... then later I bought the infill panel from a member vendor on the forum and I pulled the rubber/threaded grommets out and used his supplied stainless bolts and Nylock nut. Infill panel is good for reducing buffeting coming up past your forks. It is also a good place to install switches too.
It makes it near impossible to adjust your headlights while it is installed though. Most find the stock headlights are aimed a bit to high. Mine are and yes... the preload is bumped up.
Good suggestions. I thought the mounting mechanism was pretty flimsy.

It was always my understanding that the plastic screws that were used was to allow the screw(s) to break, and not what they were attached to. IE: KZ1000P has about a dozen or so plastic screws holding the Plexiglas windshield to the fiberglass fairing. Don't ask how I know, but when you go off the bike backward and hit the Plexiglas, the screws snap off. This prevents damage to the fairing and/or the rider. The screws are cheap and easy to replace.

Steel hardware will not give. Either the winglet will give or the fairing will. Neither of which are as cheap as plastic fasteners.

I don't have the winglets since I want as much airflow as possible when our temps get over 100°.

Understandable in Houston weather. If I am hitting those things then that big windshield is more of a concern!

That's a nice lookin bike. The only thing that I really don't get on the whole Tenere adventure bike is the lower fork protectors that are formed by the fender. They don't do much in my opinion. I fell into ownership of mine. Totally unexpected. So far I really like it. I've really torn into mine and put it back together so I have been getting acquainted with it since February. You have some wonderful riding down in your area. Both on pavement and off pavement. Enjoy!

Which sizes did you get? I watched a few Youtube videos on them that were all good.
i went for the big ones. my main reason being i wanted to be able to stick my pants, jacket and mid length boots in them. they're like 2" wider on each side than the little ones. and let's be real here, my fat ass isn't shuffling this bike down singletrack. Definitely a quality product. I had the stock yamaha panniers on it before- not too bad, but kinda small inside (walls are thick so you lose some space) and it feels a little like you're gonna snap the key that starts your bike off in them. Also had set of (probably first gen) jesse bags on my R100GS. I liked those too, but the bumots have lighter more elegant brackets, and much nicer boxes and latches all around. I didn't weight the bumot setup, but everything felt lighter than i expected - in a good way.

yeah that's how i got mine too. had an airhead GS that i was getting tired of dumping money into and my buddy was looking to get a smaller lighter bike... 3k later i was on a 70,000 mile super T with a stack of maintenance paperwork. it really comes into its own on long days. Also an exceptionally durable and well engineered machine.

I have AltRider lower and upper bars but I do like that T-Rex Racing bars as they have lower protection. But then I worry about something hitting that lower section and throwing you. 6 of one 1/2 a dozen of the other!
Well there ya go! Get your T-Rex and sell me your Upper! Win win!
