Jesse versus Bumot question

I have narrowed down my pannier purchase to Jesse Odysee or Bumot Defender. Of course I have an issue/question on each system. As background, the bike is a 2015 and will be used off-road, loaded for camping. It will not be a road only rig.

Jesse? - I would rather have a rear horizontal cross bar as part of the mount. Do Jesse owners have any issues with the left bag sagging or deflecting down when heavily loaded. From a lot of rear end pics I see the left bag "appears" to sag a little.

Bumot? - their mount does not come with a stiffener plate for the rear of the left foot peg. You either get a spacer to use or try to find the OEM peg reinforcement plate. This system does have the rear cross-bar. So in a way, I have the same question. Is the system sturdy up and down and left and right using only the spacer.

Thanks in advance for info on either system.

Ron Earp, did your bike have OEM bags on it with the left passenger peg mount reinforcing bracket or did you use the spacer from Bumot?
....Thanks

My bike did have OEM bags but I sold those and included all the stock parts with the sale. The Bumots have a tubular arm that comes down and attaches to the passenger footrest bracket on each side.

Here is a Bumot thread on the forum.

On the last page of it I have some pictures of my setup and you can see the support on one of the side pics.

^^This.
Ditto for me, narrowed down to Jesse or Bumot, went with the Bumots large size, the racks are rock solid, panniers mount securely and can be locked on and locked shut.
Here is a post with pictures of my Bumots on my 2015:

Jesse "sag" on left pannier is partly optical illusion due to muffler cut out shape and partly how it comes from factory. I have the widest 11" Odessey II bags and have packed them heavily with zero deflection, zero sag over some very rough terrain without issue.

Excellent customer service if you live in the US. Not sure how they handle overseas issues and orders though.

My Jesse Safari 9" haven't changed angle in the last 55,000 miles, off road, loaded, a couple tip overs, one crash. I used a level and a tape measure when mounting the brackets/racks, played around with a variety of shims so the bars would be straight up and down and parallel. I've recently gotten one of the smaller 25l Bumot top boxes for when I run without the Jesses. Real nice box, very stout mounting system, not very fond of the plastic corners. Not like they're going to go tumbling down a hillside and need the bumpers.

Thanks for all the replies. It almost came down to a coin flip. I decided on the Bumots primarily due to the cross bar at the rear and the looks (very subjective I know). There was less than a $100 difference. I went ahead and got the narrow ones and the stealth tool box. Now I wait, nose pressed against my front window waiting on the brown truck.

Ordered a "full" set of Rumbux also. Yeah, I know they will kill me ::005::. I really loved the first set on the bike that tried to kill me.

I am actually more concerned with the wife hurting me when today's Visa melting is discovered.

I too went with the 36/40 Bumots and the toolbox. I am impressed with the quality and fitup. Less than one hour from opening the boxes to standing back admiring them. Have not taken a trip yet, but that will be knocked out next two weekends. Money well spent.

Did not think of the lid liner as a 'shower kit', guess I need to order a second one, as I only got one to start with. Farkling is painful, monetarily that is,...but like Christmas every time the brown truck stops in front of the house.

I already had a set of liners from my previous Caribous and I want to see if they will work. I figured for the lids I would use the space to keep my rain suit in one lid and my Gerbings vest in the other.

I had Caribous on my 13 S10 that I recently totaled, and my SuperStrom before that. Great pannier system that worked well. The side that ended taking the major hit after I endoed, ejected the bag as designed but it got rashed pretty well. Progressive paid me well for the dead bike and the accessories, so I got to start over fresh. I decided I needed a change from using Caribous twice.

I really miss my 13 (lots of memories in 40,000 miles), but I am now developing a new relationship with my 15 I just got broke in.

From recent personal observation, the Bumots do not hold up well after a few drops. Low speed drops on dirt and one ~30mph drop on pavement. Bags popped off bike in all but one case. Multiple issues; pannier metal at puck attachment bent, lock mechanism bent, upon straightening to allow it to attach the lock tumbler fell out, next drop plastic mounting pucks cracked, plastic corners not protection and dissapear quickly and then front corner of bag scraped/bent and opened a 1/2" hole, lid hinge scraped down to almost separation, lids bent/tweeked, etc.

I've seen dozens of Jesse's crash with only scrapes and small dents. No comparison between the two systems for crash durability.

That's what I got. You won't be dissappointed.

Anecdotal at best, but my Bumots have hit the ground four times. One low speed accident on hard dirt, one in soft dirt, and I'm embarrassed to say, two stupid parking lot tip overs where I jumped off the bike without checking to see that the bike was leaned over enough to rest properly.

The only damage to the bike and bags was a cracked protective corner on the Bumot bags and scrapes on the crash bars. The bags are still in perfect alignment and I think that is due in part to the good cross brace the bags have.

I realize- two year old post. Watched the adv. bike TV episode, they showed the Bumot at a much lower price. Because they are in the UK? I find the Bumot web page in Slovenia, as well as advmotorrad.com, looks like they have an import arrangement maybe?

given almost equal prices, makes deciding even tougher.

Have had 2 bikes w/Jesse bags, both leaked.
One withered bumpy bags and maybe a few drops of water during a heavy heavy downpour riding at hwy speeds. Bumot would be my preference.

Jesse build quality is probably 10% better just not as watertight as the bumots which is 100% important to me.
