I am very pleased with mine that it for sure.

Did Al ever finish up the modified spacer kit for mounting without the passenger grab bars installed?

thats a good question because they definitely will not go on without the grab rails with the standard hardware, like they advertise :-[

Here is what I ended up having to do with my Odyssey mounts to get them to work without the passenger grab rails:

http://www.yamahasupertenere.com/index.php?topic=4109.msg75310#msg75310

Odyssey II bags mounted. They are plumb, but are slightly splayed out in the front. Across the front they are 36.5" wide, across the back is 36". These are mounted without the passenger grab rails, and without cutting anything on the bike. There is slight contact between the left-side Jesse mount and the very rear edge of the muffler guard.

I have a Altrider rack that does not touch the bags, but the right side is close, about 1/4" clearance. The left mount has about 3/8" clearance from the Altrider rack. In order to suck the mounts in any farther I will have to cut the bottom off the forward passenger rack tie-down, replace the muffler and loose the muffler shield (plan on a carbon fiber LeoVince - which according to Jaxon runs much cooler than the stainless/titanium/aluminum cans). I will also have to do something to prevent the 'wings' on the Altrider rack from hitting the bags...either raise the rack a bit (use longer spacers), or bend the 'wings' a bit more or trim them.

I ended up using following for spacing out the Jesse mounts (note the the Jesse spacers are very, very variable in actual width, so the math does not work out like you think it should):

Left Front: 1" Jesse Spacer + 3/8" Jesse Spacer + additional 1/4" spacer and one .060" washer - total width is 1.650"

Left Rear: 1" Jesse Spacer + 3/8" Jesse Spacer + additional 1/2" spacer - total width is 1.830"

Right Front: 1" Jesse Spacer + 3/8" Jesse Spacer + additional 1/4" spacer - total width is 1.575"

Right Rear: 1" Jesse Spacer + 3/8" Jesse Spacer + additional 1/4" spacer - total width is 1.570"

I bought (4) 10mm x 75mm fine pitch (1.25) bolts for the above.

The left Jesse mount is resting on the outside of the footpeg mount, and I used no spacer. I had to buy a 8mm x 30mm oval head bolt for this.

The right Jesse mount has a 3/8" Jesse Spacer between the Jesse mount and the Jesse bracket that is installed between the frame and the footpeg. I used the Jesse supplied 8mm x 50mm bolt for this.

I suspect there is some variability in the actual Jesse mounts as well, so some will mount closer than others.

I am pleased with these, but I don't think there is enough variability to reach the 35" width Jesse has listed on their website. At least not with my bike and my mounts. I thin I could gain around 3/8" on the left & right side mount by cutting the front tie-down and replacing the muffler and eliminate the front splay. Don't know if I can get down to 35".

The bags are build like a brick s***-house. Very nice.

Sorry for the late reply. I was trying to reach Al who is at the http://www.overlandexpo.com/ with the 600 and 1200 Tenere. I do not think he has cell reception. I am 99% sure he has addressed this and has a solution that is done. I will update this as soon as I here back from him

Something seems a bit odd here as all of the bushings are made with a CNC lathe and all of the mounts are welded together and tested in a jig. I will look into this more as we have had no issues with our test bike or other customers that I am aware of. Does your Altrider rack share any of the Jesse mounting holes?

Maybe if you supplied some kind of instructiins with that bag of assorted spacers... I think my kit came with about 14 spacers, 3 different sizes and no instructions of any kind. Plus I was told before I bought it that it would mount without the grab handles so I jerked off with every possible combination I could think of for about an hour before I gave up.

Nope. The Altrider rack only bolts to the OEM luggage rack locations. No sharing.

The Jesse spacers did vary a bit on overall length, by as much as 0.060" (if I remember correctly). The additional spacers I bought/used (actually machined bushings) were dead-on, so the variations in overall length noted were due to the variations in length of the Jesse supplied spacers.

The New Triumph 1200

Live from www.overlandexpo.com going on right now!

Shown with 10" Odyssey II's. The total width is 38" wide. As a comparison the handlebars are 35" and the mirrors are 38". You can move the saddlebags a total of 5" for and aft on the mounts to help distribute your load for safer handling.

I wonder if this means that we *might* see the XT660 Tenere in the US? Hopefully.

can you explain why a spacer kit to install the bags without the grab rails would be an additional $40.00

I made my spacers with 7/8" aluminium round bar, its not that hard. Hacksaw and a drill. $40 is a bit steep.

A bit? That's an understatement. I got one of the first sets, and when I complained to XplorerMoto (then distributors) that I couldn't mount the racks tight (ie without grabrails) as advertised, Rick sent me more spacers - gratis. IMHO these spacers should be supplied with every kit, so that the owner can choose what kind of mounting they want. $40 is completely silly.

Anyone installed the updated Jesse rear luggage rack yet? If so, what do you think?

Thanks!
