Loops for tie downs on lids

I want to install something on the lids of the Jesse's that will allow me to lash thinkgs to the lids; sleeping bag, tent, pack, etc.

Has anyone installed anything and can you report the results?

Stainless steel drawer pulls with a larg washer inside the box to distribute the load are an ok choice. Also looking at some marine type loops.

Whatever it needs to have sufficient height above the surface of the Jesse to allow a Rok Strap or similar to pasee through.

Also - where to mount on the top surface or the angled part of the lid.

Any and all comments / thoughts / photos are welcome.

John

Maybe this will help... Yes, xplorermoto does seem to be long gone, but here's the lid racks that Paul466 was talking about:

Only fits the Odyssey II's, though, IIRC.

And yes, these lid racks are made by Jesse, and they are available in colors other than KTM orange! ::025::

On another note, this thread might give you some ideas...

And here's another alternative:

Last but not least, here's some sources for lid loops, more commonly referred to as "footman loops":

I just picked up my 2014 ES from Al today. Got the 10" panniers in charcoal. Wow, they are awesome. I took pics with my iPhone but it seems they are too big to attach? If anyone can help, I can email them to post.

Al also gave me a short tour of the shop. Very impressive on all the cool behind the scenes fabricating which is taking place. Business seems very very good and lots of new prototype designs are in the works!

I'll be heading to vegas tomorrow and will give a full report when I gets back.

Many thanks for the links. Really like those lid racks!!! Will probably go that route.

screwed by jesse luggage... Al Jesse sold the company so it all make sense now

Monday mar 12 i called Jesse 9am to say i needed a bracket to switch my brackets to my new bike. i was leaving on a trip Thurs morning (mar 15). I wanted overnight so i had time to get the racks mounted and pack. Dee insisted she would ship Monday the 12thand 2 day shipping was OK. since it was 9am i figured she could pull it off and i reluctantly agreed. by Tuesday the 13th i hadn't heard anything so i contacted Dee for a tracking #. When i got the # it showed the shipping label wasn't even printed until Tuesday the 13th and it was due by me Thurs the 15th by 830 PM....
I contacted Dee again to see what was going on and she said she had mailed it and everything would be OK. I stressed to her I was leaving town Thurs 9am and wouldn't even be in town to receive the package. She insisted everything would be OK.
WED march 14th... when the mail came at lunch time the package wasn't there. I checked the tracking to find out the package hadn't even arrived in my state yet. I spent Wed afternoon fabricating new spacers and the bracket and mounted my racks. Then packing the bike.
Thursday 15th.. Since i was riding past the post office on my way out of town, I stopped in and gave them the tracking # and told them to return it. He looked it up and said it was in the truck out back and if I waited an hour the truck would be unloaded and he would give it to me.
When i got home days later i saw that Jesse had received my package back but never refunded me. After 3 days back and forth I finally received an 80% refund. Dee said since i returned it I got hit with 20% restocking fee. WTH? I never saw the package. Al Jesse would never put up with that bullshit...

Don't know if the new owners still follow this thread but I'll relate some disappointment we had with Jesse Luggage...

On my recommendation my buddy bought the full $1800 luggage set for his Tenere shortly before we left for Tuktoyaktuk in Aug '18. A 20 mph lowside on the Dempster twisted a pannier upward on it's mount (broke the Delrin) to the point it dented the lower front corner of the top box. We got things straightened enough to return home and he contacted them for options on repair/replacement. Their suggestion was to send the pannier back to see if it could be repaired which he did at a cost of $30-$40.

They deemed it unrepairable and the cost for one replacement pannier was $600. Plus he had to purchase the Delrin mount separately. All told he has over $700 in replacing one pannier.

Disappointment:
1. I don't understand why the original pannier was $500 with the Delrin mount and the replacement was ~$650. Their claim was it cost more to make/inventory one pannier. Maybe, but they produce a ton of those panniers and they're all the same. Hard to see where it costs much (if anything) to set a couple aside for customer crash replacement. Seems like a case of profiteering on the fact we have a useless set of luggage without a replacement. Furthermore, I can see where other brands sell single replacements for 1/2 the cost of the original pair.

2. I also think they could have simply asked for pictures of his damaged pannier to determine repairability. That would have saved him $40.

It was going to be a matter of time until I purchased a set of Jesse's for my S10 (I already have the mounts...), this has cooled me off. The other guy that went with us to Tuk was on a 1190 and he also has a set of Jesse mounts on the shelf (and a case of the "wants"), he's cooled off on purchasing panniers too.

FWIW, you can google "Dempster Highway in pictures 2018 advrider" to see our ride report...

Don't get me wrong, I think they're top quality (maybe the best) and like that they're made in the USA, but good grief $700. My buddy wouldn't have thought a thing about $495 + shipping. They need to think that through IMO.

Sounds like Jesse's customer service isn't what it was when Al owned the company. Have never read anything bad about Bumots. People who plan to ride dirt might consider soft luggage instead since it doesn't dent or wreck other bike parts when dropped. Bumot makes a set of quick release soft bags, check out the Xtremadas.

Too bad as past Jesse customer service was excellent.

I had a weld fail on a rack. Was south of Tucson at the time I called them and offered to ride to Phoenix so they could repair it. Told no need, emailed photo and a brand new rack was shipped out immediately with a call tag to return the old one. And I even bought my Jesse's used from a private party. Lifetime warranty honored without question.

I did however buy my rear compartment from them. When I called to order inquired about "scratch and dent" availability for a discounted price. Was told it might delay shipment a week or two which I agreed to. My discounted order shipped the next day and upon arrival item was clearly neither scratched or dented.

Caution, Long!

Had an accident and had to replace my Jesse Luggage Odyssey's panniers. I saw on their website that they now had Challenger and Odyssey series Panniers.
When I called to ask what the differences were I was told the Odyssey's are no longer available or being made. I then asked what the differences were between the Odyssey's and the Challengers and was told they had redesigned the lids so they were not as tall and they had reduced the angles on the bottom of the cases. I asked if there were any differences to the mounting since I saw there was different hardware and was told just the hardware had changed.

When I went to install them, found that the front of the right Jesse pannier now interfered with the right side passenger peg, even with the pannier mounted as far back as you can get it, you could not put the peg back. (See pics.) Compared the mounting positions of the hardware between the Odyssey's and the Challengers and found the lower Delrin mounting had been moved back 3", as you may know, the mounting rack consists of two oblong loops offset by 3" so you can move the pannier forward or back about 12 " to balance the load on your bike. (One of the features that differentiates Jesse from other pannier suppliers) That capability was no longer there. with the passenger peg extended it only gave you room to move it about 2" from the farthest back position and you loose the ability to carry a passenger since the pannier is now against to peg.

Contacted Jesse luggage and was told they would look into it, since they had a Tenere there they were installing a set of Challenger panniers on. They got back to me later that day and confirmed they found the same issue. They told me the only options were to grind off the end of the passenger peg so it could clear the Jesse pannier, or I or they could re-drill and relocate the bottom mounting Delrin 3" forward like where it was mounted on the Odyssey's. I told them that was an unacceptable solutions since I had paid for New Panniers, not panniers that would now have extra holes in them. They told me they were not willing to make "Custom Panniers" just for me. I was thinking what about all the rest of the Tenere owners that buy your panniers, are they all "Custom" ? They also were not willing to take them back since they had been installed.

footpeg3.jpg
This shows the bottom Delrin mounting block as far back as you can get it without re-drilling the pannier.

We had settled on a refund of 200.00 dollars since I was going the re-drill the slotted lower mounting holes for the Delrin mounting blocks instead of me sending them back to them to re-drill them. I was told someone would contact me to arrange for the refund. This has not happened nor have they responded to e-mails and voicemails since.

If you are thinking off buying Panniers from Jesse Luggage be warned, They don not fit the 2014+ Tenere ES any longer.

Hey my ”Jesse” folks! I’ve been enjoying my Odyssey ll panniers on my 2012 Super Tenere for years and love your product! Are you folks working on any aftermarket parts for the new Harley Davidson adventure motorcycle? That motorcycle is on my radar, but I would very much like to know if your product will be available when I pull the trigger. Any information you could provide would be very helpful, are you folks working on any aftermarket parts for the new Harley Davidson adventure motorcycle?
