..........is an odyssey top box available or would i have to go with the more rounded safari top box?
are the top boxes permanently mounted or do they come with the quick release setup?
can the top boxes be mounted in either width or length wise, or just width wise?
im assuming you would have to purchase a kit to re-key all to the same key?
Odyssey top box is available in the 45 L size.
The mount that comes with the box is a permanent mount. The QRDP, (quick release) is available
for additional cost, (more money).
The top box can be mounted any way you wish.
And we can key the top box (and QRDP) to your Odyssey panniers. (don't forget to tell us)
10% off on the Odyssey stuff thru the end of the month....Also applies to the QRDP if ordered with the
Odyssey top box.

I too am looking at potentially adding a Jesse top box to accompany my Odyssey bags. I have all the above questions plus:

I have an AltRider back deck (the old style). Will the Jesse top box mounting plate match up?

::017::
The QRDP (quick release) won't work with the AltRider back deck. The only way to make that work is to
abandon the AltRider rack. You can permanently mount the top box to the deck without
hindering the opening/closing of the pannier lids. So if you just want it to stay mounted, no problem.

Any chance Jesse is going to run another special anytime soon? I have preliminary spousal approval to buy the panniers.

OK, after selling the Caribous, trying to get Holans (rack fitment issues) and subsequently thinking this over far too much I finally pulled the trigger on a set of Odyssey II 10" with the narrow fit kit today. Black S10 w/Charcoal. They should be here early next week. I will try to take copious pictures and notes since it has been a while and I think the Jesse system has evolved a bit.

In the end the decision went like this:

I wanted top loaders so sold the Caribous the PO had installed - they are great side loaders but I wanted top loaders - simply personal preference

I tried the Holan - Jason at ADV Motorad was great but the rack was not. No way it would work. Weeks of waiting on the factory was just unsatisfactory so I moved on. I will gladly give Jason business in the future - he was simply awesome to work with. Not his fault. I would have stuck with Holan if the rack had worked. Oh well.

Now we are down to about a dozen other choices

I narrow it to full systems to avoid having to mate up incompatible designs

My short list: Happy Trails - Teton or Cascade, Touratech Zega Pro 31/38, Jesse Odyssey 10" or Safari 9"

Lots of questions and reading here and over at the other asylum

In the end the factors were:
 • Rack strength - Jesse FTW - look at pics of people standing in the case and bikes suspended by them from a crane .... and very few if any reports of failure that I saw, HT - many reported failures - TT - wide and good rep like Jesse but the win goes to Jesse
 • Width - Jesse FTW - TT - too wide and a mack truck of wasted space. HT - close but not as good as Jesse.
 • Volume - Jesse hands down at the width. The Safari 9" were just too narrow on the left side - I think they said 5.25" - not enough so went to Odyssey. With the tight fit kit I should be able to get it pretty darn snug.
 • Reputation - Jesse again - TT great, HT - great. Jesse just seemed to bubble to the top time after time. Their one shortcoming is install instructions but it seems they all poretty much suck at this. One of these days they will all figure it out?
 • Clearance - Jesse look to be slightly higher mounted than the others but that is hard to tell. Draw.
 • Price - fortunately not a limiting facto but was taken into account. The Jesse's were in the middle. I just could not believe TT wanted extra for locks at the price. Seriously they can't put $5 of locks in a pair of $1500 racks? That annoyed me. The HT were great price and if price were a constraint in this purchase it would have quickly tilted to HT hands down. I can always weld an messed up rack if needed.

So ... now we will see! Thanks to everyone that posted pics and responses and contributed to previous threads!
Looking forward to seeing you're installed pics. Jesses have been on my shortlist but are a bit wider than I'd like with the grab handles retained.

First I've heard of problems with the Holan rack, they wouldn't send you a replacement rack to try?

Holan was saying there must have been a change in the S10 production because the rack was so far off. They were trying to locate a bike to have a look. I just think the rack was not on a jig when it was done. It was just too slow a process and didn't seem they were interested enough over the course of a month. Jason was great the whole time and I am sure the quality is otherwise fine but in the end it just didn't work out. I've ended up w/o racks for most of the summer jut due to work and kid logistics but am coming into the fall sweet spot riding season here in Colorado so am finally going to get this done. It will also be nice to be able to run errands on the bike again!

I think I figured it out. Now I am trying to sort out the rack. I would call but they are closed on Friday. Anyway, tried the tight fit kit without the grab rails and the bolts were too short. Now I have the handrails mounted and it goes like this:

handrail> 1" spacer > 3/8" spacer > mount > lock washer > bolt head (read from inside to out). Anyway, the front of the rack looks pointed in a little, so not sure if I have it right. Also, I was wondering how I could do this without the handrail. Can I put the 3/8" spacer between the mount and bolt head (meaning on the outside instead of inside?).

Thanks in advance....

By reading my instructions you should have a spacer at the front mount if you have the grab bars still in place.
your other sequence looks to be correct. both spacers used if keeping grab bars mounted

Thanks, I'll take out that 3/8" spacer and try it without the grab rails....but I don't understand why the tighten up kit bolts were so short, does not work as the plastic piece that is under the passenger seat is in the way.

I have PDF's of the installs - PM me your email address.

I had the tighten up kit and the same issue with bolts. Mine were too short. You have to hack the front tie down off of the oem plastic thing that the passenger seat rests on. If you don't you aren't getting the benefit. I had incorrect threads on my bolts as well - I think they sen M8 and you need M10 (might be the other way around). be careful or you will end up having to chase the threads. I can post a pic of my install (didn't hack yet) if you want

Once you have all the correct bolts the install takes about 10 minutes.

I cut off the front tie down this afternoon, but the bolt is still too short as the rear mount has a tab facing inwards that hits against the housing for the brake lights. I ended up using the original long bolts with the 1" and 3/8" spacer between the mount and the hole and a 3/8" spacer between the bolt head and mount all the way around. Everything is square now. Took a couple hours of trial and error. I did use the heat shield and 3/8" spacers in the tighten up kit but not the bolts. The left rack is about 1/8" from the very end of my Leo Vince exhaust, so I might put a little heat shield tape on the closet point.

Did you remove the spacer from the front left side mount? I took mine out and everything seems to line up.

Time for a beverage O:)

Frustrating experience. Ordered the rear compartment with the luggage rack that replaces the pillion seat and it was left out. I call and he needs my key code so that makes a week go by as I am out of town. Of course, it has no key anyway so that was wasted time. Get the rear compartment installed and it does not sit at the same level as the rear rack, probably because the rear rack needs different spacers. Instruction and the correct hardware would have been nice. Very well made stuff but the install is hard only because you are left to figure it out on your own. Sorry to rant, worked 70 hours this week and losing patience....

To the Jesse team,
I sent you the note below to the info@jesseluggage.com address from your website and did not get a reply. So, I thought I would try to get the latest ADV deal by asking here. I realize that the last deal expired but I had serious car trouble right after I sent the note and could not spend the money.

I am a huge fan of your panniers. I bought a used BMW GS a couple years ago that already had them on it and they sold me on the bike. They were the old style with 2 quick releases and a stiff rubber donut into a bar style mounting system - that I REALLY liked! Low profile remaining hardware with the bags removed and totally secure when the bags were installed. I never had the slightest problem with them. I am guessing they were the original Odyssey mounts - the precursor to the Odyssey 2? I understand that mounting system is no longer available and has been replaced by the Odyssey II. I see that the new system is still really tight to the bike too - very important to me and I like the forward/back feature on the new design. I will not even consider buying those ridiculous outrigger/pontoon looking bag systems I see from other major brands! They look like you could land on water with them - and the bike not tip over! All bags should be inside of the handlebar width for any bike. That is my rule after 30+ years of street riding - obviously you guys agree.

Also, my bags had these wire zig-zag organizer thingies inside the lid that I don't see on the website pics. These hold items in what I called "the attic" of the pannier lid. I kept spare gloves on one side and a rain suit on the other. These items stayed in the bags 24/7 and did not interfere with loading up the bags for a trip. I loved this feature and want them in my next set! Are they standard or are they an add-on?

I also had the wire racks for the top of the lids. I didn't use them much but they were a great handle for carrying the bag when it was off the bike and I liked having the extra tie-down points for a bag on the back seat. I see those have been replaced by a more modern plate that you screw into the lid (featured nicely on ADVRider site, BTW). I think I want this add-on too. I thought these items would be on the "Accessories" page of your website but I don't see them listed anywhere - so I don't know what the price is.

FYI - My old Jesse bags handled the full weight of the bike (with only some small scuffs in the black paint) and prevented further damage in one particularly bad tip over in an uneven parking lot. I was putting the bike up on the sidestand and it got away from me on the wrong side and I could not save it... errrrrgh! Unfortunately that bike was a POS mechanically with only 20k miles too - but I still loved the bags and would only consider Jesse bags for the next bike. Now I have a new 2013 Yamaha Super Tenere in Matte Gray - I think this is very similar in color to your charcoal color or at least is complimentary.

I am a member of ADVRider and Yamaha Super Tenere forums (BigBikerBrad) and I understand that you are doing an offer where you will throw in a QRDP (cool design!!) with a set of Odyssey bags ordered by 12/19/13. How much of a deposit do you need up front to place the order? Previously there was a fall deal for us ADV guys for free shipping if we said Chris sent us but I think that may have expired. I assume that the current deal would be one or the other - not both. Or is there a better/different deal over the winter months?

Can I get a quote (and the $ amount deposit required) for a set of the 10 inch Odyssey II bags in Charcoal color and the mounts (what color are the mounts? I assume black but let me know) for the Yamaha Super Tenere. I'd like the "attic" organizers and separate pricing for the racks that go on the top of each lid and estimated shipping costs to 20169. And, please confirm that will include the QRDP if ordered on time. I would also consider any scratch and dents you may have uncovered in your recent move (Congrats! Looks great!). My contact info is below.

Thank you for your time and for a great product! I wanted to let you know I routinely proudly endorse Jesse Luggage systems. I am an active part time MSF instructor who teaches about 2 weekends per month. My full time gig is working for a company here in VA/DC that has the contract to teach motorcycle training at Navy, Marine and Air Force military bases around the world. As the Northeastern Operations Manager, I manage about 40+ instructors who all ride and most are full time motorcycle instructors. And, as you might guess ADV bikes are popular with this crowd. Do you have an standard MSF Instructor discount that I can advertise within my company? Most of my guys are also ex-military too if that helps. Please let me know if there is. I know things are tight but these guys are in front of a lot of potential customers every day and could be good cheerleaders for your brand.

Still no reply after over a month. Anyone heard from anyone at Jesse Luggage?
Have you called them? I've called about two times since I've owned my bags. Each time I spoke to someone and he/she was very helpful. The last time I called, I spoke to Al Jesse. He answered my question and got me what I needed?

Just completed a 2400 mile trip on my S10 with Jesse luggage. 9 states in 9 days. This luggage continues to impress me. The top loading is fantastic. Rode in really hard rain for several hours and had no water get in. I am amazed how much they hold and how well they help carry the load on the bike. Great product!
