This is the good thing about the other brands. They are permanently updating. So, you just bought a 790 adventure, and it is already an "old model" ... they already presented the 890 ... why they didn't make the 790 890 and they saved a step?... did they think when they made the 790 that if they put 100cm3 more on it, would it be better?
I dont know if they are stupid.....or they want to take us for stupid

I can understand your point however it can just be was cheaper to introduce a new, "model" at the cost of boring it out along with a host of new minor features. It's like yamaha with its world crosser spec with carbon bits, lights, graphics, and new side cases because the old ones were junk.

It’s a way to generate more brand impressions, generate more revenue, and most importantly… Generate more profits. So you’re right, they think we’re stupid.

I should hit 100,000 miles in the next 18 months or so. If Checkswrecks' prediction is accurate, that milestone should coincide nicely with a Gen 3 model with about a year on its clock to work out any update bugs. It would give me an easy answer to the question of, "what do I replace my 2014 Super Tenere with?".

Just switched this summer from an Africa Twin to the sooperten, a GSA prior to that.

This is a solid bike. I think they could apply lessons learned on ecu mapping to improve the rideability. Throttle response in particular.

The Honda ABS/TCS works really well. Like: I didn't turn off on gravel and two track well. Bottom the fork braking on gravel well. The knowledge is available to do this. Main weak point to me in comparison to others.

The dash display quality is okay, but the right side one is iffy. This could use improvement.

The cases are meh, but there's lots of other choices.

As EricV pointed out, most of the stuff folks are asking for are personal preferences, spend your money as fits you.

Update bugs? o_O It's a Yamaha. Although not impossible, highly improbable. I can't remember reading on here about any issues from Gen 1 to 2. If. . . . when, the Gen 3 comes out. . . . I'm gonna get the bowl of popcorn, sit back, and watch the posts fly. :) Maybe I have low standards, but, my bike does everything I need/want it to. . . . and it's paid for.

Well, even with the Yamaha reliability, they still can have bugs. They didn't redo the original CCT and clutch basket because they were flawless. Even with Yamaha's famed reliability (and I'm a firm believer in it, that's why I bought the S10), a big new upgrade can still have some kinks to work out that might be nice to be aware of in advance. If a new upgrade did arrive this winter, I wouldn't be ready for it anyway, since 100,000 miles is a mark I want to reach with this bike, so my timeline for the bike would coincide nicely with a shakedown period for an upgrade.

I still say a ball scratcher is great idea in the gen 3 and a oem yamaha cappuccino maker inside the top case.

But, wasn't the CCT an issue for the entire Gen 1 run?
As far as I know, yes. It took Yamaha four years to put the new CCT into service on the 2014, but I'd hazard a guess that owners in the field were aware that this was a potential weak spot on the pre-2014 bikes before the new part became available.

In any event, the CCT, or the clutch basket, or the wiring recalls mentioned by Tenman, are all examples that even with the Yamaha reliability, any manufacturer can produce a bike with a flaw that can become apparent during use. Suzuki Vstroms have an excellent rep for reliability, but there was an issue with a particular production year of the DL650 (I don't recall which year, but it was the 2012 or later) where there was a flaw in the camshafts. Even with Yamaha's rep, I doubt I'd rush out an buy a first year T7 (assuming I even could, with the current demand) until I'd read about how they were running after about a year of use. I'd have zero issues with buying any S10 up to the current year, but if it underwent some major redesign (engine change, frame redesign, etc), I'd probably still wait a year til I bought one. Just a personal philosophy.

Although already an old model, it’s still remains the good bike it is.

I should hit 300,000 miles in the next 10 years I cant wait for gen 3 to be on the used market so I can buy it for 50% off MSRP.
I’m with you in this school of thought, but only wait a year or two post Gen3 release, then pick up a bargain. That is of course once we know if the 3 exists and then what it brings with it.

Current plan is to keep my Gen1 until my big 2022 trip, of I reckon around 6-8k miles, then replace.

Low standards, really? The Super Tenere has been a good and very capable bike, from day 1 of release. I’m surprised you feel that way.

Oh, don't get me wrong. It is my favorite bike ever. But, I keep hearing how she's too heavy, needs more power, needs more cylinders, and need some extra features. So, I guess I just don't know what's good for me.

I know. It’s terrible isn’t it. I feel similar when those naughty road testers don’t praise it like they do some of the other big boys bikes, in fact, I get all hurty and upset.
