I've been riding the MABDR the last couple of days, and i realize the insurance company commercial is so right. You know the one, where the dismounted rider is daydreaming about riding and is singing his head off at some inappropriate place. The announcer says, "if you ride, you get it." Well...i definitely get it. At times it's a full blown concert in my helmet. I never ride with music playing, so it gets pretty ugly.

I can't be the only one. What are you absent mindedly singing? For me today it was:

Leave it - Yes
Take the long way home - Super Tramp
Rain down in Africa - Toto
Soak up the sun - Sheryl Crowe (I did even know this song the first time I found myself singing it. Just a lot of la la la sounds)

What have you got?

100% focus on the trail ahead and controlling my bike and body position to keep the rubber on the ground. It's one of the reasons I ride. If I start singing songs and thinking about other things, wadding up the bike is just ahead.

My therapy is removing my mind from anything other than riding my bike. It's pretty much the same with any activity that requires many multiple motor skills. The day I start singing tunes in my head or letting my mind drift to other thoughts instead of concentrating on what I'm doing, it's time to hang it up.

Off road conditions change so quickly and it requires so many different skills to navigate safely and stay upright, that total aggregation is a must!!

Twisty road(s) and R.E.O. Speedwagon's Roll With the Changes is the best. Of course their Time for Me to Fly is good one also. Recently. . . . I've been diggin' some me some Larry Fleet, Five Finger Death Punch, Patty Griffin. And, don't forget THE AC/DC, S.R.V., Joann Jett, Kid Rock, Eric Church. . . . etc, etc,. . . .never any rap though. I brought this topic up once. . . . and was surprised to find I was the odd man out. I now always ride with my music. I figured if my dumb ass can multi-task. . . . anybody could. I guess practice makes perfect. 19 of 28 years were spent listening/responding to voices in my helmet. Now. . . . I all I have to do is listen, and enjoy. :)

I forgot to charge my Sena once, and on the way home, it died. That was a horrible 20 minutes.

You need a longer charger cord. It will charge and still do music!

Last Saturday I somehow was listening to Pandora on my phone then started Sena FM radio! Try to figure that out in traffic! Switching constantly between 5 seconds of one then 5 of the other and both good songs!

I'm not so good at multitasking off road......

Ok, now that is more that I could probably do. I stick to my 'pod full of music to the Sena. Forward, back, and volume. That's about my limit. :)

When I’m getting tired I start singing one very old song from the 1st world war: “It’s a long way to Tipperary”
It's a long way to Tipperary
It's a long way to go.
It's a long way to Tipperary
To the sweetest girl I know
!

Ok, that’s the only part I know and it sounds great inside my helmet

Had a friend who used to ride with us , she would yell out to us JUST before we put our helmets on and sing a few words of a song we didnt like that she knew would stick in our heads , laugh and ride off...biatch lol.
THAT is evil. (I got to remember that, and do it to my boys)

For me a certain song will stick on one ride but not on others. I even sing aloud and when I stop it’s like I turned off the radio, weird silence.

I don’t do this in a car.

Off highway I always have the FM radio playing. Farther from stations or on the highway I'll just keep singing to whatever song gets stuck in my head.

Fortunately, only songs I like get stuck in my head. And, usually, it's in my 'pod. A lot of times, when I stop, one of the songs that played during the ride will stick in my little pea brain. . . . and I'll keep humming it. CW, I don't know how you listen to FM/AM. Too much yappin'. About 20% of my playlist(s) come from TV/movies. I'll hear something I like, and either Google or Shazam it.

When I'm running the slab I will usually sing a few John Prine songs like Illegal Smile and Please Don't Bury Me. But on longer boring trips I'll go thru Willie's entire Red Headed Stranger album.willien.jpg

What's really eerie silence was the DB-Silencer on my 300. It is very sad they are no longer made. I kick myself for giving it away with my bike when I sold it. I could sneak up on deers on the trail. At 3500RPM my bike blew under 85db. The big advantage came on rocky trails. You could hear the rocks movement under the bike to determine where to safely plant the wheel. Being able to listen to just the motor and focus on line choice with no earplugs was a joy.

I miss those walking pace trails that required every bit of my concentration and motor skills. I cannot even imagine being able to sing a song or think of anything else. I only wish I had the skills to ride on the edge of nasty steep switchbacks with 2,000 drop off and have the ability to let my mind wander. My brain does not have the ability to navigate a nasty off camber rocky trail that can mean serious injury or death with just a small bobble and still sing along in my head as if it's not even there.

This is an interesting topic and just goes to show how slow my brain is compared to others. Now when I'm on my stationary bike at home the music is on and I'm singing away!!
