It looks like few here have taken to heart the lessons of the past few years on how to behave in public.

But surely these people keep getting elected? So loads of people must think they are doing a great job? Seems to me that fixed term is just a way for those minority who don’t like them can be assured they will go soon.
It comes down to the fact that in a lot of cases the lobbyists that own them pour copious amounts of cash into each re-election campaign, far outspending any of the challengers and effectively buying an election.

How will you feel when you finally get someone you really like and trust elected and they continue to do a great job with integrity and honour right up to the end and then get kicked out no matter how well they have done? Doesn’t make sense.
This is understood and a price that those of us pushing for term limits are willing to pay. The corollary is that we get the ones that we don't like or trust out in two terms, no questions asked. The biggest advantage is that we don't get lifetime politicians, who no longer "serve" their constituents but instead see their position as a career......the gathering of wealth and power become a priority (secondary of course to maintaining thier seat by cowtowing to whomever has the largest checkbook).

I believe that the voting system needs a shake up. The Electoral College needs to go and the Popular Vote take its place. There are no more 3 fifths of a person.

This is one thing I do agree with DT about. He said the same in 2012, 2016 and 2017.

In 2000 and 2016 the least popular candidate won.

The absence of term limits in Congress is the reason why we end up with pieces of shit like Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, Joe Biden, and Mitch McConnell sucking the public teat,...
But the flip side is we could get a House and Senate full of AOC and Matt Gaetz types. That could be far worse IMO.

I must have missed where Trump told his supporters to violently attack the capital. Can you share that statement. Where were those 20k troops when they were burning and stealing everything they could a few months ago?
...And we fight. We fight like hell. And if you don’t fight like hell, you’re not going to have a country anymore.
...So we’re going to, we’re going to walk down Pennsylvania Avenue.

These and other incendiary comments followed Jr & Giuliani working up the crowd with comments about kicking ass and this being a war.

I think that day will be more clear with the impeachment trial because even McConnell was clearly fed up when he said
"The mob was fed lies," "They were provoked by the president and other powerful people."

As for me - There's no hate (mad hatter comment) because I don't put much emotion into the belief that the Trump family has engaged in organized crime. I was working daily with FBI agents in 1996-97 who related exactly the type of stuff which became the subject of numerous articles 20 years later. https://www.politico.com/magazine/story/2016/05/donald-trump-2016-mob-organized-crime-213910
To me it just is what it is, because working among New Yorkers this stuff was not news and in all the years since, I've never gotten he impression they were wrong or that Trump changed. This guy who is so wealthy had a court bar him and his kids from charities after being found guilty of stealing from them.

So while I did express my beliefs in this thread, those were clearly my opinion and I have no problem with others having theirs. Trump will have his days in court and it may be a show but it won't be anything any of us will have any influence on. At this point we are just watching history roll by.

As for us, once out of office even the Bushes and Obamas put politics aside and became friends.

In my opinion You couldn't be more wrong. The Electoral College system is the pinnacle of our elections system that prevents Presidential candidates from only campaigning or pandering to several of the largest metropolitan areas in our country. Our President is the President of the whole country, not just a dozen of the largest cities.

If you've ever looked at a county by county map of who's voted red or blue you will see that over 80 percent of our country votes red. The 20% Blue areas are predominantly poorly ran, crime ridden, over populated, over taxed, over regulated, corrupt, and often bankrupt cities and states where the people's values or lifestyles do not match most of the country. The votes form one liberal shit hole, problem child, city of Portland Oregon would wipe out every vote from my state of ND. The votes of the three largest cities New York, Los Angeles, and Chicago would wipe out the votes of a vast swath of mid America.

Unfortunately it appears that without even eliminating the electoral college you'll get your wish of our country going completely blue. Many traditionally conservative or red states are being over run by people fleeing blue states in droves. The stupid thing about that is, the new Democrat residents don't leave their voting practices at home and are quickly turning red states blue by continuing to vote for the same shit they tried to leave. That doesn't surprise me much from people I think vote more with their emotions rather than with the rational side of their brains.

No Fucking thank you to abolishing the Electoral College system.

McConnell and the others who turned their back on the hairy pumpkin are just scared to death to lose their financial support and their jod or worse, be indicted. Not beacause they finally seen the light and tried to put an end to Trumps stupidities. Just look at Facebook, Twitter and the others. While Trump was in power, they were happy to get the revenu generated by all those clicks and just when Trump was getting the boot, they all turned their back to him to save the last bit of dignity they have. Hypocrits.

Maybe the time to close and/or delete this thread as come. Enough time as been spent on this very polarizing topic. It's either you won your election or you believe it was stolen. That doesn't make any sense. If you lose, its automaticaly fraud? Come on, Trump lost fair and square any still lamenting over this fact is only going to deepen the divide between americans. Yeah, maybe Biden is not the best choice but he was elected by the people. Those not happy with that fact, well, just vote in the next election for who you think will run your country best.

Read in a comment:

As mentioned before, this thread began when members kept injecting politics in other threads. With the January 6 riot we needed an outlet somewhere, so here it is.
I agree, those people need an outlet but it is my belief that a motorcycle forum and one talking about our beloved S10, is not hte place to get in that sort of discution. I'm sure some will agree with me and others wont, thats the way it is. I'll probably be leavin this forum because I tought I found a place where I could get away from all that is bad with this world.

To all of you, please stay safe and ride safe.

But then you end up with what we have in NY: 54 of 62 counties voted for the Republican gubernatorial candidate yet due to the population density of the remain 8 counties (primarily NYC), those 8 counties chose the Democratic candidate as the winner. The issue here is that the population of NYC has absolutely no concept of what life in the remaining 80% of the state is like, so you end up with an extremely urban-centric population making the rules for a state that is mostly rural and agricultural-based. It's the tail wagging the dog.......and it sucks. Same could be said for IL (Chicago), CA (Los Angeles), VA (Richmond), NC (Charlotte), WA (Seattle), OR (Portland), etc.

I'v wrestled with posting in this thread for many of the reasons stated here by others. I have read through it, and I lament that it has driven some members away. Having been a moderator here for as long as I have, I know I was partly responsible for the timbre of moderation here; I always err on the side of leaving as much as possible while only excising that which breaks the rules. We have had members in the past really test us on this (and we make mistakes, being human after all), thankfully for the most part we all have a common interest here which holds us together as a community.

But the exact flip side of that can also be said. Why should an urban vote be weighted less than others that have no concept of what urban life is?

What if that 80% of the state shrinks to only 10% of the population?

No easy way to reconcile. I say keep the status quo except eliminate the ridiculous gerrymandering.

As a born and bred (upstate) former New Yorker, this is exactly right. You have to live thru it awhile to feel how bad is sucks.
