I really like the looks of your setup with the hepco-beckers. They seem to fit extremely well and all the lines match up evenly. Are they the 30L side bags? Where did you find them and how do like them so far?
Both bags are 30 L, there is no need to get one 30 L and the other 40 L to make them match width due to the muffler on one side. The 40 L bags were LARGE (I had originally bought a 30 and 40 L saddle bag cuz I thought the left side with the muffler would stick out further) and I think they made the bike wider than the GSA with the large bags, so I sent the 40L bag back for a 30L.

I am very happy with the bags, they don't feel to be as tonka tuff as the GSA bags, or the Jesse bags, but I wasn't looking for bags that would stop a rocket either. I got the bags from;

I just went to a motorcycle show. The twistedThrottle booth had a 800GS with Trax; the Touratech booth had a 800GS with Zega Pro and Yamaha had a S10 with OEM panniers. One thing I noticed was that the OEM panniers did no stick out of the bikes mirrors, like the other two. Jesse luggage looked tough, but they just look like something I rather not talk about. Going to a show, you would think that would help make up your mind, but now I'm still confused. :-\

Not to mention when you take the Jesse's loose there's that eyesore of a bracket with '1200' cut into it, and none of that looks like a quick removal.

Thanks for the info. I'm torn between the Trax (which may leak), The Givi trekkers (which seem to sit very low to the ground), and these HB's. Hope to decide at the Cleveland IMS expo.

Have you considered the Micatech v2 bags. I have a set and really like them. Very strong and easy to use. I have the 8" and 10" but would probably go with two 8". More than enough room. Just saying..

Thanks for the input. I love the finish on the Micatech's but prefer the angled edges (just for looks) on the Trax and HB's.

Yes, 90% of the time, for the other 10%, I bought 2 of these...89L each which is a bit larger than I need, but they roll down.

Look at Caribou Luggage Systems. I searched this topic for days before I moved. You can not break them,(if you do they will replace it, no matter how you do it) no key needed, 100% water and dust proof, and price. I got the bag liners and bags that fit in the box for $1250.oo ish shipped. Pain in the ass to install but when i was done very happy. Look at his web site or call the owner answers the phone, Roger 303 786 8947 PS I do not work for him or the company I am just a very happy customer.

Bike luggage is like money and firewood I guess ... you can never have too much. It's also like going out to eat ... you order what you want, then see what the other guy got, and wish you had ordered that. It's tough being us. R ::012:: ::012::

Just thought I'd comment on this as it's been going through my mind.

I hate the OEM luggage. The locks are plastic for christ's sake! What on earth are Yamaha doing. It feels like you could stick a screw driver in and open the locks. They don't feel great quality at all. Even the dealer said that people had complained.
So I started to hunt for replacements. Knowing Sam Manicom the round the world motorcycle author I decided to ask him, as he's going to know more than me that's for sure.
Hands down he recommended Metal Mule panniers so I'm currently speaking to Dave at Metal Mule about a set. He tells me they have a special offer coming up... sure they're expensive but for me this is purchase suitable for several bikes.

My BMW kit has plastic locks, but they are well thought out and easy to operate, the "Vario" system is a bit of a gimmick though as I bet most people always leave them opened fully up and if they took of the machanism for this they could have got the same capacity into a smaller space anyway, although I do often chop the top box down as the Mrs moans about it hitting her in the back - which gets me on my next point.....

Why is so much luggage designed for solo use? Many top boxes have a habbit of being too close in and whacking the pillion, on my ZZR I moved the box back a bit by using the "wrong" mounting holes to prevent this, and I know many panniers tend to get in the way of illions legs, or stop them getting their feet on the pegs properly - maybe with generic cases like Givi etc. where they fit many models, but OEM model specific kit really ought to be bloody hard to beat - and as I have said before if BMW do one thing very well it is the accessories.

I agree about the BMW accessories. As well thought out as Japanese cars are, it's mind boggling how they havent really improved integration and placement of the accessories on their bikes.

Super Tenere Factory OEM Luggage, AltRider, Corbin, Parabellum & Two Bros Review

I just completed a 7,200 mile trip on the 2014 Super 10 (80% on road 20% off road). Over all the bike is pretty good. Fuel economy was around 47mpg loaded with about 80lbs of luggage + 170lbs rider.
Here is a rundown and short review of the bike and the accessories I used on the trip.
Wind Protection:
I had replaced the OEM windshield with a Parabellum X-tall 27" windshield, at 6'1" this did an excellent job keeping the head wind off.
Also had the side wind deflectors, could not tell if these really did anything or not. Biggest con about the setup on the Super 10 is the cross wind. This bike is very unstable with highway gust from oncoming traffic and crosswind in general. I am not sure but I think the tall windshield may have amplified the problem.
Seat Comfort:
I had replaced the OEM seat with a Corbin seat. I think I wasted money on a Corbin. This is the 3rd Corbin I have had on 3 different bikes and by far the most uncomfortable. I should of gone with a Sargent or just kept the OEM saddle on. I cannot recommend the Corbin.
Handle bar Ergos:
Bar width was pretty good but I think I will add a ROX riser as I would get shoulder cramps after about 4 hours into the ride. COuld of used an extra 2" up and back on the bars.
Heated Grips
OEM heated grip worked extremely well, had a handful of days of below 50º rides in the rain and the grips did a great job at keeping my hands warm. Highly recommend the heated grips.
Alt-Rider Crash Bars
I did not crash, so as for good luck charms, crash bars did their job on staving away bad crash mojo.
Alt-Rider Skid plate
Did a good job protecting the engine when rocks and debris was kicked up while off road riding. Heard plenty of loud bangs and scrapes. The low ground clearance on the Super 10 makes this skid plate a must. Downside to this is it amplifies all the engine and shifting noise.
Two Brother Exhuast
Right after installation the bike sounds alive and mean. Noticeable performance improvement and not sure if it is attributed to my improved gas milage. The weight reduction was a big plus. Downside, after about 2,000 miles the bike got so loud that even with 32db earplugs it was loud. The pipes badly needed repacking. Fortune for me at around the 3,500 mark I was near Two Brothers Racing HQ/Factory and with a short email exchange they invited me over to get the pipe repacked. In addition to that they swapped out the short downturn pipe tip for a longer pipe tip that reduced the sound about 8db. The bike never got too loud for the remainder of the trip. If you get the Two Bros exhaust, get the M2/M5/M7/S1R P1X Race Pipe PowerTip with is, it will save your ears and keep he people around you happy.
Hard Luggage:
I had the OEM side and top cases. These are really bad. The locks are horrible for 2 reasons. First the Yamaha Key is a flimsily piece of garbage. The key bends so easily it is really terrible. Next the locks are absolute junk and cause the key to bend constantly. At one point, one of the case the lock fell out because the screws that holds the lock in rattled loose. Dealer installed the locks and did not apply any lock tight to any of the screws. Trip to the hard wear store for a safety torx wrench and the problem was solved. The whole mounting method is so backwards that it feels like it will break. The amount of space is ok and for the most part they are pretty water resistant. The Lids will not stay open and constantly fall closed, this really sucked in pretty much all situation, I have no idea why you would ever want the lids to constantly close shut. Other than looking cool, keep away from these and go with aftermarket hard luggage. Again Yamaha OEM hard cases are big waste of money and will give endless aggravation.
Cruise Control:
The cruise control on this bike is great! Such a life saver and kept me pain free for 4 hours instead of maybe 2.

What I would do differently:
1. DIfferent Luggage
2. Rox Riser
3. Keep OEM seat or try a Sargent

Otherwise the bike is pretty good!

I've had the OEM boxes from the start. Before I bought me Tenere I always thought the 'ammo box' look and size appealing. Far as I'm concerned, there the best lookers on the Yam. Practicality wise, I leave mine on all the time as being no wider than the handlebars I'm confident to filter pretty much like normal. They have been perfectly weather tight. Regarding capacity, it's a compromise between taking everything and the kitchen sink and going with 'sheds' on the side of the bike or taking a little less crap. Actually, better still, over the years I've aquirred multi use and compact gear for me travels, so I don't feel I'm missing anything in my pack list for the 3 boxes plus small tank bag that adorn me bike. Camping is the norm for me n I fit a spacious 2 man tent lengthwise in the smaller of the 2 panniers n still have decent room left. Gonna be even better next camp as just bought a good sized 1 man tent. Shite loads of room now in said pannier... :) Topbox just takes me Caberg peaked hybrid lid, so happy days there. On the weight front, I don't think there is any probs either. Often do me shopping on the bike and loads get way heavier than camp stuff. No issues too, with the mounting system used. Simple when ya done it a couple of times n when ya do ya benefit from a sleeker look without the usual scaffolding. Robustness, well they are a mixture of aluminium n plastic, so tip overs, who knows... I don't yet, thankfully. Only advice, is as has been said before, regarding the locks. Make sure ya loctite the little screws that holds the mechanism in place. Do that n ya good to go...

I had new keys made and IMO they seem stronger than the factory keys so I will be using those but has anyone replaced the factory tumblers in their Yamaha OEM luggage? I agree with the post saying the tumblers seem like they are not all that great. They work but... I don't know that I trust them.

Bright side, at least they gave me reason to buy another couple of security torx bits to install them.

New keys for the boxes are a must. I was surprised that they had the keys at my local ACE store and they are a lot stronger.
So I have 2 keys on my key ring. One for the ignition and use the ACE keys for the box. Couldn't imagine just have 1 key and risk bending it with the locks. ::021::

The tumblers are pretty meh, but what's worse is the plastic latch engagement. Terrible.

Why can't you use the ACE key for both? US bikes are not transponder keys.
Use one and keep the other in your jacket pocket for emergencies.

I could. Don't always wear the same clothes riding though.
Guess the point is I always carry 2 keys. Don't want to risk breaking one in the lock..

This is what I've been doing. Although I'm gaining more trust with the keys I had made.

Agreed the plastic lock mechanism is probably the real issue.
