Brand-new member and soon to be ST owner. I'm looking at a low mileage 2013 ST to upgrade from my 2017 Yamaha SCR950. I bought the SCR in December of 2017 as my first bike in 45 years (no, that's not my age, it was 45 years from when my Yamaha 360 Enduro was stolen while I was in a summer school class at Univ of Texas); it's actually bike #8 in my history, with the first 7 coming in the 1965-1972 era when I was first in the Navy and then at UT (#1 was a Honda CL72 250cc scrambler, followed in succession by a CL77 305cc scrambler, a Triumph T100SC 500cc scrambler (aka Steve McQueen bike), Harley Sprint 250 scrambler, Bultaco El Tigre 250cc scrambler, Bultaco 360cc comp dirt bike and then the stolen Yamaha 360 Enduro). The SCR is a pretty cool town cruiser, but feels pretty stretched when I take the occasional highway ride with only a 5 speed box and somewhat low gearing (great for hole shots, but too much vibration much above 60-70 for an old man). So, it's going to turn into an ST based on the readings I've done, although I have yet to even sit on one since there are none for sale anywhere close to me. Anyhow, I'm looking forward to the change.

Welcome from a few hours to the north. If it was me, I would go for a '14 or newer. More refined with a few more creature comforts; and an ES is even more so.

Thanks for the reply and suggestion. That would be the ideal from what I've read. Unfortunately, the Gen 1 is more in my index of affordability at the moment. Maybe later (if I have a later, hell, I'm already 72).

Patience grasshopper. :) But, there are overpriced Gen 1s, and there are underpriced Gen 2s out there. It would take some investigation. Either way, I doubt you will be disappointed. Good luck.

If you have not set on/bought one around the first of April I should be in Cedar Park on the way to Arizona/Death Valley/Utah and the Arkansas Rally. I could probably borrow my Son By Laws indian and you could ride mine.

The only problem is that UT thing. I, my daughter and SIL are ISU.

Welcome, I was new here yesterday.

I just bought a 2012. Had crash bars added and a good skid plate. Soft luggage top bag which keeps me from swinging my leg over the seat while standing on the ground. I have to stand on a foot peg. :( It was, as far as I could see, the only for sale in my area and the price was okay. Good luck on finding one. I like the feel of this bike. I liked everything about it. The acceleration is good, handles very well in the curves on pavement, and the braking feels solid.

My previous Tenere was a 2013 but with 50,000 miles it was time for another expensive valve check, and I had been riding bikes with cruise control for so many years that I very seriously missed not having it on the Tenere, so I started looking to trade for a Generation 2 equipped with cruise, well I wound up trading for a brandnew 2018 ES, it was very expensive but I’m happy ! There are lots of minor but very significant improvements to the generation 2 besides the cruise control.

Wish I'd seen your ad. Was it on CL?? Don't know how I missed it. Your bike may be going through whatever process they put used bikes through before resale, or there's the probability someone working there latched onto it and it never made it to the sales floor.
