Im having issues trying to legally import my Canadian 2014 ES (with stock immobilizer system). The guys at the border all gave me a hard no on using my navigation system as my speed indicator... If i recall, EU Super teneres toggle from metric to standard, and that CAN and US bikes are one option only. Can i plug an American dash in to my Canadian bike and all is good? Anyone ever tried this?? Thanks for any input people...

The dash is pin-programmed so you should be able to plug in an American dash module of the same year and ES. I say "should" because I'm not positive the Canadian immobilizer won't have an effect. As you need the dash just for a one-time inspection, maybe you can find somebody in your area who will temporarily trade?

I'm surprised it wasn't the exhaust or turn signals they stopped you for.

My sister just moved from Calgary to Texas last year. Only thing they even checked on their vehicles for customs was the kph and mph conversion had been done. Her husband has a 68 mustang custom wazoo motor and near straight pipes. Zero care they looked at the dash to see it was MPH before signing off on the declaration to load it in the carrier.

The speedo change surprises me. But, most states don't hold "old" cars to the same standards/restrictions as they do late models. Texas even exempts 25 years and older cars from emission testing. But, not every county has to get "smog checked" anyway.

I have a 2016 Canadian spec nonES. I bought a new USA spec speedometer because I wanted to be able to switch between mph and kph but when I installed it on my bike it came up as mph and I could not switch to kph. I did not start the bike or drive it with the USA speedometer because I wanted to return it for credit since it wasn't switchable.
So, the USA speedo will bolt in place, the electric connection is the same and it will power up and show mph, but I don't know if the engine will start or if the speedometer actually works. The USA speedometer doesn't have the immobilizer flashing light so you may need to get a USA ignition switch and ECU also.

US Customs is what hes dealing with not a state level inspection.

My '12 US will switch to kph. Don't remember the button sequence though. Seems to me I remember you could easily mix it up with the clock set sequence. Always bugged me that our neighbors couldn't switch when they come here for a visit.
