Part 1:

There is a bike that was presented at EICMA 2013, but it was a bit ' muted compared to other phantasmagoric news. We talk about the Yamaha Super Ténéré , namely the ZE version . The addition of the letter " E" to the normal abbreviation XT1200Z is not a mere makeover in shape as it defines the turning point of the electronic model : new cruise control, new settings for the two mappings for the two-cylinder and 3-stage traction control switched off . Then there is the new all-digital instrumentation , but the real revolution is in the chassis , where they arrive electronically adjustable suspension . Although the equipment has improved a lot and now there are series of heated grips , the saddle in suede finish and the windshield height adjustable - no longer needed tools, but the transaction still has to be done from a standstill . The guards , the handle for the passenger, height adjustment of the seat and the center stand were already before the series, and integrate a budget not bad.

A THOUSAND FOR THE 1200 ...

The ZE is then dedicated to travelers along the course , and its equipment worth € 1,000 more than the price of the "basic" version which joins : from 14,640 to 15,640 euro ( CIM ) . For the more insatiable , is going to get the version Worldcrosser (here the previous version scrambled by Francesco Catanese and engaged in comparative maxi enduro in Greece) , which will rise to € 17,000 . Another gem will be the three packages of accessories ( Sport, Touring and Touring Plus) Yamaha will offer a total price less than the sum of their component optional

What's up

To brush up ' technique click here (yes, there are also changes in the distribution and some more hp ) and have a look at the tab at the bottom of the page. Now let us know how it goes with the bike , reading the driving impressions of our testers Angelo Barbiero , who has tried the " softie " on the streets ( and on dirt roads ) of the Amalfi Coast (look at his numbers in the gallery). The complete test of Motorcycling March.

112 hp BUT SEEMS MORE

Balanced and strong as it ever was. But now it is richer and has gained character. First, the throttle response more energetic right away and delivery , especially in "Sport" mode , it's finally 1200 cc engine with a thrust perceived well above what would be expected from only 2 hp increase in power . A little ' typical of the latest Yamaha is actually the on-off effect in the close / open (seen also in effect on MT- 9:07 ) . In Touring mode everything is more sweet : perfect for off-road driving and disengaged . Of course, even less fun ... Speaking of taste : if you want to enjoy a little ' the sound of the engine is better if you mount the optional Akrapovic , because the standard exhaust is very civil , even too much. But the gains comfort , thanks to the low level of vibration and better wind protection .

BALANCED , EASY , INTUITIVE : RIGHT FOR ALL SITUATIONS

In the manual, 3 pounds more than they feel (though you file something with the Akra ) and, indeed, the balance and the overall balance allow you to take advantage of the excellent handling with great intuitiveness , especially in traffic and off-road. But you want to know about the electronic suspension Kayaba , no? The 3 settings are selectable on the move : "Standard" ( valid for most situations ), " Hard" (ok for sporty driving , thanks to lower load transfers that improve precisone ) "Soft" (ideal for comfort and grip off-road with asphalt or badly placed , thanks to the improved sensitivity in the first part of the hike ) . As if that were not enough , there are other fine adjustments in each mode (-3 to +3) and four-position spring preload of the shock absorber , adjustable , however, only when the machine stops with the engine running. In total are 84 combinations !

ELECTRONIC YES, BUT disconnectable

The electronic board is easily managed via the buttons on the electric blocks similar to those of the FJR1300 . The Traction Control is switched off , while traditionally the ABS is not. Equally traditionally , however, the anti-lock can be ruled out with the usual trick : put the bike on the center stand and with the help of the motor spins the rear wheel until the ABS warning light stays on. The brakes , for their part , are well modulated, while the front we lacked a little ' power . But just because we were looking for perfection.

I thought the ABS was switchable on the '14?

Ok thanks Fed.

Sounds like they have done the flash at the factory. :D
That's exactly the impression I got as well.
