Was rear ended by a 24 year old who was too busy to read her text than using her brakes. She hit me at roughly 15mph after skidding 10 feet while at a complete stop. Lucky she steered to the left. Ripped the left side case right off its mounts. Broke the exhaust, mounts and sheared the passenger peck right off as well. Threw the bike forward and to the right about three feet, before it crashed failing on the right. A somewhat free ambulance ride to the local emergency, and a wasted morning getting X-ray's.

A bruised leg, ankle, wrist and $4,892 worth of damage. ::022::

Glad to hear you survived. And the Tenere.

I swear they are trying to get us from all directions. And it's worst today, than ever! We are NOT progressing as a mobile society. And we aren't moved, obviously, by the very public acknowledgement that texting leads to vehicular homicide.

I constantly let it be known I don't favor drivers looking at their cell phone. I demonstratively hold my hand to my helmet like "call me" and then do a nono shame on you with my index.

I'm sure it is embarrassing and humiliating. And I suspect negative words are escaping from their lips. But it likely makes an impression. And perhaps the next guy on a bike brings it back to their memory.

It's survival out there. Not a popularity contest.

Selfish as heck. People THINK they can multitask. Many really suck at it.

Good luck. Get well. And I bet you are hyperaware of what's behind you now. Hope it doesn't steal your joy. :)

Good to hear you are ok, sort of. Heal quickly and make sure the subframe, swingarm, shock, and frame are straight.

Glad to hear you are relatively OK.
Like Tomato wrote, check the stuff you can't see, like the rear wheel bearing, swing arm shaft for straightness, etc.

I hate to heart stuff like this, it makes me cringe. Glad you survived.
I was rearended in 2006 on I-75 by a unlicensed uninsured guy that was driving himself to court for prescription medication fraud.
I didnt know it had happened until I woke up in a trauma center.

I have been rear-ended at a stop light twice, one in my CRV which was totaled (hit by a fast never who never touched his brakes) and once on my ST1300 ($2200 in damages). The Big guy was looking out for me because I was pretty much unscathed in both events. Glad you are more or less alright too. Hope you get plenty of $ to make your STeed right again.

Glad you lived to tell the tale. These stories make me cringe. You just never know when some cager is going to cream you.

I was riding a few weeks ago with a friend. I made it through a stop light and he didn't. I went up the hill and pulled off to wait for him. Instead of being in the middle lane, he moved over to the turn lane. I thought - where is he going? I couldn't tell from my angle, but an 18 wheeler was coming up fast in his lane. That truck blew right through that red light like he owned the road. If my bud had not switched lanes, he would have been a grease spot.

Stay sharp out there!

When I dropped mine at 60 kmh this summer on the Dempster, it took 7K (and 8 weeks!!!!) to make Big Blue new again.

These are expensive bikes to put back together!

7K? As in $7000 US?

Wow. What adds up so fast? I don't know much, I admit, but seems like if the frame and motor are good it would be hard to spend that much on it.

That really sucks.

side bags, handle bar, gas tank, right side panels, mirror, roll bar, skid plate, final drive plate, helmet etc....

Dealer replaced all as I had a 1K deductible. I got to keep the parts.

On the plus side, I will shortly be posting some slightly scratched / dented protection on the WTS discussion....

That stuff scares the shit out of me. I'm constantly looking in my mirrors.
I've been rear ended at stoplights twice in the past 3 years. Luckily I was in a car. The last one, this summer, my Wrangler was rear ended by an F250 that lost its brakes.
Glad you're ok. Bikes can be fixed.
