I can't believe that I'm doing this.

We bought this trailer new back in 1983. We have probably pulled it 60,000 miles behind Ventures and the XS1100. But we haven't pulled it for 11 years.
The deal is when we travel and stop to hike or go in some place, we just can't leave $2,000 worth of riding clothes just lying on the seat.
We don't need to take more stuff; we just need a secure place to put expensive gear.
I made the hitch today and pulled it for a ride. I still need to redo all the lighting, new tires, some wheel bearings and do some painting. But I think we will start using it again.
Just curious if anyone else pull a trailer?

I thought it was Checkwrecks that did/does.

Great idea. Any shots of your mounting system and hitch. At this time, I don't need the extra storage but I like the idea of having secured out of site gear. I have contemplated a camping trailer too. A couple of months ago I looked online at a BMW RT that came with a small trailer for what I thought was a great price. It was even located in IA if I remember correctly.

Will you be able to share some detail pictures of the hitch! Not to long a go I was thinking on building one my self! Will appreciate if you can share some detail pictures! Looks GREAT!

I have thought of doing the same thing. The thought in the back of my mind is what would I do if some stole my helmet and jacket. And I don’t want 14” wide boxes hanging off the sides.

I dunno if this is helpful, but here's s thread of guys discussing trailer hitches for the S10. Gotta be some members in that thread who've towed with the bike, and might be able to provide some useful information.

worried about losing your gear?

I carry a bicycle lock and about 3 feet worth of cable. Much smaller than a trailer, cheaper too. Never had a flat or a wheel bearing go out on it.

+1, but I can see the additional safety and convenience, especially riding 2up, with the miles Steve does.

This is what I pull behind my goldwing, Monogo brand built in Canada. It's a Thule rooftop carrier with a steel tube frame. Just about the only way I can get my wife to travel any more, lots of room for her stuff, I get the panniers, the trunk is empty for tablet, phone charging and helmet storage. 20210803_120905.jpg
No desire to hook it to my T12 since she rarely gets on it anymore, but I may make a hitch for my cruiser for solo camping trips.

I think than anyone who does a lot of long two up tours with a passenger can see the merits of having a trailer. I know there's a subset of riders who take pride in the fact that they'll go on a two week trip with nothing but a spare t-shirt and a cut in half toothbrush, but it might be a bridge too far to find a wife/girlfriend who is both willing to ride with you AND subscribe to that minimalist philosophy. My girlfriend is no shrinking violet when it comes to roughing it on the road, but even two people with a relatively high comfort threshold on a two week trip will fill up a couple panniers pretty easily, especially when there are going to be weather extremes on the trip. I've never used a trailer on the bike, but there sure have been times that I wished I had one.

I've got a Bushtec. I wanted a full size cot and a large tent for my last trip. Took a mileage hit, but the camp site was luxurious.

We went for a good 125 mile test run today.
All new lighting, new tires, all wired up.
I think it will work out just fine. Pulls very easy and isn't very noticeable. Only had about 25lb of weight in it though.
I'm slowly getting her used to the thought of riding to Alaska again, she seems to be warming up to going.
