How to pick up your Tenere after you drop it. Because you will drop it!

Now that was funny! He sagely kicked his bike so that it would fall down hill. That's been my fear with the Tenere.

Recently our local police department put on a bike handling demo at a car show. The really nice officer volunteered to drop the bike for me so that I could use this technique to pick it up. There were kids around and a bunch of people watching so I couldn't use the cursing and therefore couldn't pick up the 800lb Harley. 145lb man (mostly muscle) could do nothing against the Hog.

Its happened to me fully loaded about 40 miles in the woods. It took me about 30 minutes to get the bike unloaded and spun around. I'm pretty strong but it took everything I had to get the bike spun to where the front end was facing down hill. Once there, the technique he uses with his back to the bike works really well. You can even use two hands on the handlebar with your back to it, to get more leverage if needed, and yea the video is hilarious and you will struggle unless you practice. I would even say have a friend help you put it on its side in the grass so you can practice this technique.

Picked up my S10 new to me and fully kitted last week. Rode 250 miles home, 1 mile from home and road closed got caught on detour with a sudden car. We braked and bike plus me and girlfriend went down, iv never ridden a big bike let alone dropped one. But within 30secs bike was up on side stand and in under a min we were both on and riding away with an audience.

We were very happy with this as it will happen again and again no doudt. Also there was no damage to bike, only slight scuff on Oem crash bars and panniers.

Whata sport! You and her. :)

I predict you'll learn how the big pig rolls soon enough. And falling over will become more seldom.

Coastie... thanks for the blast from my past. I remember that vid very well from my very early KLR days. I still use the metaphor of the "kick test" whenever someone asks what kind of bike they should get. Too damn funny!!
"Can i kick it over and not want to commit suicide test." I have been chuckling all day at that quote. Funniest thing I have heard in awhile!

Old Git Ray looks like a mean old bastard! I would not mess with him :))
I'm not sure he is mean, but from the video I can tell he is one tough son-of-a-bitch. Have you ever walked straight up to a downed SupaT and picked it up like it was a moped? ??? ??? I doubt it.... in the original video from a couple of years back he does it a couple of times just for good measure :eek: :eek:

"So you just got your $14000Ish Tenere all farkled up and head out to test her out on the nearest dirt road. You may have wished you got a KLR!"

I have a 2010 KLR already! Maybe I'll try the 'kick test' !!!! ::008::

This bike isn't that bad to pick up. I do have a little bit of experience, unfortunately. ::)

I had a fun time picking mine up in a stream...
fell on the left hand side, not all the way down, there was some rocks and a strong current holding it up,

I put the bars in full lock (to the right), faced the bike, knee in seat, back straight, and up it came.
Granted, one of my bags fell off the bike, so it was a bit lighter. I had to mcruber the bag, but made it out ok:http://www.flickr.com/photos/97730749@N03/9599847754/

that was a good day...
