While talking to the Yamaha technician about Airscrew adjustment fix that I posted in another thread, I asked him about gaining access to the diagnostic mode CO adjustment and he said it is possible, but was not supposed to broadcast it. So I am broadcasting it for him... ;)

He said you simply ground the light mint green wire that is coming out of the tip-over sensor under the rear pillion seat.
By grounding this wire, you can then access the diagnostic mode and make adjustments to the CO settings.

He did say to only make a maximum of 7 point jump in each setting at a time and try it.
I guess this was also an issue on the FJR.

I connected a wire with quick disconnect on the end to he able to access the function once the seat is back in place.
He did not say if there was an issue leaving it grounded so I made it easy to remove when finished with the adjustment.
I just tried it and it does work as described. I increased each from 0 to +8. I will try it and see what difference it makes.

Here is the sensor and connection that I used.

Here is where I grounded with my pigtail.

Give it a try guys and let's compare results.
Do remember your original settings in case you want to go back.

I have not done this yet and am only passing this for others who were interested.
On page 147-148 of the service manual the CO adjustment procedure is described.

I can't find anything there where it says to ground the green wire of the tip-over sensor??

In the german forums I have read that many owners have adjusted this setting and are convinced that their bikes now run much smoother ::008::

Pleasure! Be sure to note the standard setting for each cylinder before you increase that setting - You might want to set it back to standard before your service

One thing I noticed is this must be out side the US version... It doesn't talk about the tip over green wire... I know what that device is, but not sure where it is...

The non US models can access the diagnostic mode to get to CO adjustment as described in the service manual.
The US version bikes have this mode blocked.

The grounding of the tipover sensor green wire is how you get around this block of the CO adjustment.

Once it is grounded, you access the diagnostic mode the same as the non US bikes.

I have not tried it yet either. I looked for the tipover sensor, he said it is under the tank. I found what I thought waqs the sensor, inline with the charcoal canister but do not see a wire. Does anyone know where the tipover sensor is?

Thanks Bundu. Appears to be under the seat. The tech said it was under the tank, but maybe that was for the FJR as he said they had the same issue.

here is the discussion in the German forum (just Google translate it)
http://www.tenere.de/forum/index.php?topic=3189.msg27050#msg27050
They also discuss the reduced power in 2nd and 3rd gear below 5000rpm and some are working on over riding that.
I have noticed that quite distinctly on my S10 and works a bit on my tits, so hoping for a 'fix'
see graph below

Devin,

Lean angle sensor is under rear seat and the plastic deck. You'll need Torx bit for the deck screws.
I wasn't brave enough to try it.

pardon me, so to "improve" the ride..
which settings it should be on??
try increasing the CO number for both cylinders in steps - it seems like the maximum change should not be more than 10 points up from original setting

Not sure the exact same "pins" would be applicable, but I imagine the S-10 could be suitably modified for accessing the "Diag" screen with a method similar to the legendary FJR1300 "Barbarian Jumper Mod"...

http://www.fjrforum.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=8913

http://www.fjr1300.info/howto/jumper.html

http://www.fjr1300.info/howto/co_adjustment.html

I did this mod to my 2006 FJR1300, and played a lot with the CO settings. The only place I could ever discern any improvement was at idle.

Just FYI... YMMV.
