Mounted mine in the original position and it sits only very slightly lower than the standard unit, much much louder though. Link to the unit purchased is in post 3 above.

Mounted a Fiamm freeway blaster, low tone today. Inexpensive, loud, fits in stock location like the above post.

Stock horn is listed as 3 amps, blaster is listed as 9 amps so I decided to use a relay for my install. After looking at the wiring diagram and noticing it is on the same circuit as a few other items, (signaling system) I thought better to have it on it's own. Also the stock wires are very small so I preferred to use a bit heavier wire for the 9 amp horn.

Going to pickup one of the 2nd gen black plastic shields to hide the horn and clean up the area up a bit.

I fitted the Denali SoundBomb Mini as it's plug and play to the existing fitting (who at Yamaha thought that moped squeeker was fit for a Tenere?) It's 113 db and is plenty for riding in town traffic. For fast highway riding safety you need to be seen as you are rarly heard.
Grumpy,
Would you mind posting a pic of how your Denali SoundBomb Mini looks when installed in the OEM horn location?
Did you use the bracket that is supplied with the SoundBomb mini?
Just picked up a SoundBomb Mini yesterday and would like to install today.
Thanks,
MFP

I have LED lights mounted under the headlight, have to see what kind of room I have for a bigger horn. I hate the weak horn on this bike!

Thanks for the pics. I did a temp install with the Denali soundbomb mini and and when I plug it in the horn did not work, switched the plugs (according to the Denali instructions polarity does not matter) and still no horn. Plugged in the OEM horn and it worked fine.
Ignition was switched on and even started the bike up.
Any ideas or is the actual Denali just defective?

Get a couple pieces of wire wrap around the lugs on the horn and touch your car, atv or lawn tractor battery. Any 12v battery you can easily get to.

Is there any sound at all when you press the horn button?
The horn needs to be on a bracket that allows it to vibrate. If it cannot vibrate it will not be very loud.
Try loosening the mounting nut then test the horn.

As you said the polarity should not matter.
Do the connectors fit tight on the Denali horn?

Disconnect the terminals and check the resistance between the horn terminals. I think you should get between 2 and 3 ohms.

You said you started the bike and checked it so it sounds like you have a good voltage source.
If you do what bigbob suggested that would eliminate the possibility of being a switch problem or a ground problem. You said you rechecked the bike electrics by checking with the OEM horn again but still would not hurt to do this test as a last resort.

1. Could be a defective horn. Denalis work or they don't and they seem to sell a lot of duds.

2. Otherwise, you are not getting enough juice through the skimpy OEM wires which were sized for the OEM horn. For larger amps, they either provide enough resistance to keep it from working or you will weld the horn contacts and the horn will stick on.

Try simply jumping the horn across the battery and you'll know which case you fit in. If it works then you just proved why these really need a relay.

Hi. Do you have part number?
On a previous bike I went to a self-service junkyard and got an excellent horn off a small Isuzu truck. It was easily as loud as one of those Fiamm pancake horns which sell for $40. They charged me $1.50 (iirc) and another $1.50 for a relay after letting me try the horn on a battery at the edge of their garage. If I'd taken one of those small 12V lithium jumper batteries I could've tested it in the truck.

I do not have it, because I bought it at cars disassembly, from a truck like mine, with 3000 miles, with a side impact, for u$ 10 both, they are Denso, and the numbers in the claxon ar of Denso, not Toyota parts. I see they are in almost all the Toyota the same, some with Horns, others not, but the horns are removable . They have a small screw to regulate the tone, but they come H / Low already regulated of factory. the only thing that does not come plug'n, the (-) goes in the screw, not in the plug

I'm Bad, I'm Nationwide.
In the past on bikes Ive use just a set of Hella dual tones for $12 on amazon. The new Tenere I bought came with a Denali Sound Bomb..... HOLY CRAP!!!

I am firmly in the Denali camp for life. I don't know who I scared more at costco yesterday, the guy I honked at or me!!!!
Tried it on the freeway last night 95mph+ and could still very very clearly hear it over my music, no doubt in my mind that the car next to me even listening loudly to music would hear it.

I'll miss being able to do a nice polite tap tap of the horn to let people know its okay to turn in front of me etc, as it may be a bit too loud. But maybe with some practice I can get shorter beeps.

Update on the single fiamm, very loud! But I need to turn the opening, as it’s really not very good once the rain gets in.

Coming from an old F650GS, I was used to flashing lights to get attention, the switch is right under your left index finger. The other day someone started to pull out of a side street, I went to flash him. Well, I guess I showed HIM my menus! Muscle memory ya know.

Bought a Denali sound bomb to put on, they have a bracket so I figured, good fit. Damn thing is huge, they want you to mount it on the right side engine case. I think I will install the sound bomb on my Tacoma, maybe swipe one of those horns for the bike.

What I really want is a horn like the train engines have! Well maybe not.
