I noticed today how awful the oem horn is. I've had a look and the horn I want is the dual tone PIAA 330/400hz horn.
Now I'm hoping I can simply connect it to where I will remove the oem one, without the need for further relay or replacement wiring.
Has anyone fitted a dual tone horn with or without complications?

I figured since there is a good space up front where a horn can live, and a side mounted radiator, some folk must has upgraded to some interesting horn setups, please tell!

I bought a 'set' in error, thinking I was buying the single 'dual tone' version and ended up using just one, that way eliminated the need for a relay. You could use both and have a dual tone, but it does recommend a relay, my thoughts on that were, 'how often wold you actually depress the horn button and for how long', so would you really need a relay?

I fitted the Denali SoundBomb Mini as it's plug and play to the existing fitting (who at Yamaha thought that moped squeeker was fit for a Tenere?) It's 113 db and is plenty for riding in town traffic. For fast highway riding safety you need to be seen as you are rarly heard.

I have fit a Grote automotive horn on another bike in the past and really like it. I’ve choose the loud one (125db) and pretty cheap-20$.
I have to say that I hit the horn recently and was really disapointed! Doesnt fit with the size of the bike!
Like you said there’s a lot of room to work and I think its pretty straight forward or maybe you’ll have to fab 2 wire extender, like a did before because they were too short...

I bought a cheap pair of twin tone horns for mine. I had the same type fitted to my vstrom after the Denali sound bomb packed up. Mine are all black and mounted to the crash bar. I used a relay too...
I like the look of that! Any experience of them being affected by heavy rain pointed that way?

That's a fair point. To be honest I've no idea as I don't venture out in the wet. I would like to think that they would be ok, but if in doubt then having them point downwards would be ok. They are very loud, so will still be effective.

I have the same bars and quite fancy the idea of them being on show so I might do something very similar

I have the FIAMM Freeway Blaster dual tone horns. Installed them in July 2014.
The horns now have 73,000 miles and almost 5 years on them.

These are still the same price on Amazon as when I got them.
FIAMM 72102 Freeway Blaster HIGH Note Horn, 132 dB, 6 Amp max $15.91
FIAMM 72112 Freeway Blaster Low Note Horn, 132 dB, 6 Amp max $15.91
Amazon shows the two with a relay, $37.76

No complications other than it took me a while to figure out how and where to mount them. I am very pleased with the tone and how loud the horns are.
I have the Stebel Nautilus air horn on my VStrom and was never impressed with it.

I also had concerns about the rain. I mounted them so the opening is to the side and slightly pointed to the rear. I have ridden many days in the rain with some down pours and no problems with that.

The other thing to consider was that they not interfere with the fender or anything else. To check for clearance, I cut a piece of wood to the same length as the max travel in the fork and held it vertical as I moved it along the top of the fender. As long as the steering is straight there would be a small amount of clearance with the forks completely bottomed out.

My installation did require modifying the mounting bracket and running wires to a relay.

I didn’t like the look with the exposed metal top and the wiring so I thought I also needed to make some sort of a custom grill to cover it up. Maybe if the top of the horns were painted black it might not be so bad.

I wasn’t coming up with anything for a grill, then I saw some scrap material that I already had. I probably shouldn’t say what it is but you might find some of this in the plumbing department at the hardware store. o_O

I can provide more installation information if needed (wiring diagrams, mounting bracket mod, etc.).

I have the PIAA two horns. I ordered a splitter from Eastern Beaver. Took about 10mins to install. There's a write up on it on the other site. It's in the big tenere thread

:):)So it seems, I just did 3000 miles, just asphalt and mountain roads. I like to drive on mountain roads, alone, or with my wife. I really "enjoy" it. To "have fun" on off road, I use a WR 450, which with a little extra fuel, I pass better than my friends with gs1200 or KTM 1090. When I bought the S10, I decided not to sell it, even if a new S10 came out If I really liked it, I would buy it without selling what I have. I already happened before changing a TT500 for a Africa Twin 650, and this for a 750 and for another 750, the truth, I would like to have in my garage that TT500, even if it is for a ride. I regret having sold it and I do not want the same thing happening to me with the S10. with the WR, I have no problem changing it for another, I do not suffer when I have fallen and it is "very light", that's why I have fun

The last Africa I had was sold to a friend who still has it with 40,000 miles. In a short trip we made, we exchanged the bikes (S10xAT750)and the truth, that except for the softer cushioning, the 750 goes "very very well" ... and that is 26 years old. We were both surprised.

There actually is a lot less space than one would think. Before you mount something put the bike on the center stand and measure up from the fender a solid 7.5 inches because that's the fork travel. Do at full turn to each side too.

I've seen guys with the Freeway Blasters mounted to the right tipper guard, beneath the right side fairing. Don't forget to install with a relay.
