Hello all...one of the things I love about adventure bikes (first a V-strom and now an S10) is that, because of their utilitarian style, it makes it easy to fabricate stuff for them. I posted a lot of photos on the Stromtroopers forum of things I've made, in case someone sees a design they like and wants to incorporate it on their own bike, and I figured I would continue that here on the Supere Tenere forum.

This was my first project for the S10; an aluminum tail rack. It was all made with hand tools in my garage from both 3/16" 6061 aluminum plate and 6061 1/8" aluminum angle. The rack is designed to accept a quick release system (also my own design) for a top case. The quick release system is designed so it doesn't leave any components behind that have to be removed before you could use the rack as a platform for a soft bag, fuel can, etc.

My costs for the aluminum was about $50, with another $45 to have it powder coated.

Thanks everyone. The quick release top case is almost done, so I can finally have a top case again. I'll post photos of that project when it's all finished.

Thank you, Travex. Unfortunately, I don't think I could make one by hand with hand tools that would be cost feasible for someone to buy. You'd get a better deal from Touratech LOL.

Thanks a lot, Ramseybella. I'm a believer in that KLR spirit. That's probably why I design stuff so it can be made with basic hand tools; I'm too cheap to buy a fancy lathe, milling machine, and all those other power tools I lust for... :).

I dunno if I could carry a case of potatoes; I'm pretty sure the luggage rack could take it, but I have my doubts about that molded piece of factory plastic that's underneath it......

The top OEM tray is a POS the bottom black part can take some weight.

You mean like a 3D pantograph sort of thing?

And I agree...we should join forces...this should be our first project:

Exactly, but I can use a regular rotary tool.

We have to talk about that project, also find an available shark to take the measurements...
