Not completely sure whether an inspection needs to be done, but yes you should be able to transfer what's left of the registration into your name, plus stamp duty (the 3% you mention)

if you buy a bike in NSW,

You transfer Registraion by completing the Buyer and Seller on back of registration papers then take your paper section to a Service NSW center and hand in transfer note and pay 3% stamp duty
OR you can both complete transfer online at https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/ at bike sale time, the go to a Service NSW and pay 3% stamp duty

Note that the 3% stamp duty is on the price you put in the transfer details. Just in case you are asked to produce a receipt also get a "receipt" with same price.
The registration is now in your name and the ctp green slip also automatically is transferred in your name as it is part of bike registration.

If the NSW bike has registration left... eg expired in 3 months ...then you can ride the bike untill the registration is about to expire.
Good idea 3 weeks before the registration is going to expire you will need to get a pink slip / registration inspection. Call your local bike dealer about organizing a time to do this. DO NOT wait till rego is last day... in case you need to fix things. must be fixed before he can give you pink slip.
Once you have pink slip, buy a CTP green slip online.
then you can go back to service nsw web page and finalise payment and receive a registration receipt for your bike.
You do not need to display any stickers anymore.

Done!

...

Buying a bike from another state is harder... there are more steps.
You have 7 or 14 days.
Get a Blue slip at a bike dealer
Cancel rego in old state - return old licence plate and apply for refund for remaining registration and ctp green slip
buy new CTP green slip and buy new rego in NSW including new license plate

Or
(this is how I bought my Super Tenere from VIC)
get owner to cancel registration - negotiate price of bike cheaper due to the refund in VIC seller has to pay $100 for RWC to sell... dont forget to add this to seller's savings.
buy a permit at Service NSW to ride unregistered bike to NSW (cheapest way - do not buy permit from VIC if bringing back to NSW)
https://www.service.nsw.gov.au/transaction/apply-unregistered-vehicle-permit
buy bike unregistered
ride it home - always fun!
get a blue slip $60
buy ctp green slip and registration and new license plate

braaaaaappp braaapaapaappaappppp ride and have fun!

G'day Lor,

I left that with others showing more knowledge about the nsw system.

About the GPS mount. I have the SW Motech and don't mind it. I have put it on a ram mount from the bracket due to covering the temp, indicators on the dash. It shakes around a bit more than I'd like but does he job.

I think you need to first decide if you're going to add a screen adjuster which may have a gps mounting bar on it already. And if you're going to add the winglets. You can do it with the sw motech but it's fiddly. Drill out holes and fight with alignment.

Hey! Congratulations! Glad you found a bike and hope you're enjoying the ride.

On other matters, are they the OEM PIAA lights?

Cheers
