So finally picked up my 2015 s10 yestersay, absolutely loving it so far. Had a 140 mile return home and she felt amazing to ride. Came with givi trekker monokey side luggage, need a topbox now.
Only onw little strange thing which i couldnt get my head round. Cornering seems lovely, she drops into a corner so fast i was amazed, however when i was going round a corner really slowly maybe 15 20 mph, the front end seemed to have a little wobble? on faster corners felt normal, just slow ones. Any ideas on this would be helpful. Im Bristol based so would be keen to meet up with any other s10 owners for rideouts etc. Thanks in advance.

Welcome Tony. Before getting into the more difficult stuff, make sure your tyre pressures are correct, 40r 34f is a good place to start. Then the general condition of the tyres, old, worn, squared off. Once these are ticked off, I’d loosen of the front wheel just to check all is in order. Depending On bike mileage, I’d then be checking the head bearings.

Welcome Tony, from Texas. Boris is right about starting with tire pressure. A lot of people forget about the air in their tires, and on bikes it extremely important. In addition to the condition of the tires, the type/style of tire could influence the handling also. I went from one street tire to another, and changed my handling.

I'm with @Boris - also check the tyre bead is set true & the rim not buckled/damaged ; presumably the wheel is in balance at speed.

Many dealers forget conveniently to check the spoke tension, so it's worth re-torqueing them at each service.

Hi thanks for this, they have pirelli str on there, maybe half worn, also on the last mot an advisory was head bearings felt notchy, but wasnt a failure? only got 26k and full service history.

Head bearings could be the culprit here. Presuming you have a centre stand, bike on it, jack up gently onto a piece of wood under the front of the engine, until the front wheel is an inch or two of the ground. From the bottom of the fork legs, move the steering left to right, slowly and with a light touch. You’re feeling for a notch somewhere as you turn it. Mine was close to the centre.

I replaced my head bearings at 39k, although the problem was there a while before that.

Yamaha, like many manufacturers, are sparing with the grease when they pack the steering head bearings @Tony 58 , so I hopefully they are just a tad dry. The service regime is to clean & re-pack the SHBs at 30k miles, but they should have been checked for play/roughness every 6k service.

Like the spokes, it's another regime that gets ignored.

However the condition you cited originally rather suggests something amiss with the front tyre/wheel. A misaligned bead or cupping could easily cause this sensation if the tyre is half worn. Do they 'sing' when cornering at speed?

Hi i havnt heard any unusual noises from them, its really strange, as soon as speed picks up in a corner its perfectly smooth, just on super slow bends like 15 -25 mph

Congrats on the new ride!
The wobble? On my bike it was the front tire cupping. A known issue with Shinko705, but I’m guessing it could be an issue with similar tread patterns.

Congratulations! Check all front wheel and caliper bolts, when I bought mine found loose caliper bolts forgotten by the tech after riding home on a highway, let’s just say the dealership never saw a penny of mine in theis “service” shop….
