Hey, y'all.
New to this forum due to my growing interest in acquiring a used YST.
I sold my trusty KLR 650 3 years ago after a decade of trusty and dutiful service in the Arizona desert. Been riding a Kawasaki Concours in the interval, and now that I have relocated to the wilds of west Texas/SE New Mexico I need to get back onto something I can really use.
The KTM Adventure and Super Enduro made me long for more than the modest 40-ish horsepower from the KLR, and the recent entries into the market formerly held by the BMW boxers finally were more than I can resist.
The Honda Africa is cool, and has its merits, but I have finally decided the Yamaha is the bike for me.
(I like the idea of shaft drive over a chain, prefer larger fuel capacity, and I want cruise control.)

All that being said, I will be perusing this forum (and others) for useful and vital information.
I decided that my hatred for electronic gadgets and gizmos will have to take a back seat to my desire for cruise control, so I will be looking to purchase a 2014 or later Super Tenere when the right bike and the right price happens at the right time.

Thank you, in advance, to all of the fine folks here willing to share their wisdom, experience and insight.

Y'all be cool!

Welcome to the group and good luck finding yourself a Super T. I really enjoy exploring all the locations I couldn't get to on a street bike and I'm sure you will too.

Thanks, Astro!

Yes, the old KLR performed its duties just fine. Especially considering that I had a grand total of maybe $7,500 in the bike over 25,000 miles of light to moderate off-road use all over Arizona.
But I found myself missing the power and performance of my big 4-cylinder street bike years. The single-cylinder KLR was about as exciting as a riding lawnmower...
I’m feeling downright covetous at the notion of big horsepower (and especially the torque at the LOW end) along with all the off-road capability I think I might ever need.

Welcome mate, I foolishly lusted for extra power and sold my 2015 Es Super Ten and bought a Triumph Explorer XCA. Power is not everything, and I sold the Trumpy and got myself back on a Super Ten. Much more happy now.

Good luck with your decision and search.

Welcome aboard! If you need any help with the forum, please reach out to the moderating team (myself, Checkswrecks and colorider). There are a few 2104+ Teneres for sale here on the forum, and is the first place I'd look.

Welcome from north central TX. I too have had a KLR, and am not a fan of "tech". But also like you, I wanted the advantage of the Yamaha tech, and trusted their reliability. The Tenere is just a KLR on Wheaties.

Welcome aboard. Even with the cruise, this bike is a lot less high tech in the electronics than a lot of the competition. Pretty basic fuel injection kinda stuff.

Hi DTOM, and welcome! if you are concerned about electronics, then there is always the standard version without the electronic suspension. I was looking for an ES model but I was open to a non-ES and I found a non-ES at the right price and went for that and I'm a happy bunny!
Whichever version you get, I think you'll be happy with it.
