Help with Touratech seat!

Well I know a few of you on here, in particular Rob aka Bimota, have Touratech seats. I have just got myself one from Touratech Italy at a bargain price thanks to Strummer of this parish for his help and patience. Of course, thanks to all who voted for Brexit, I got shafted for £70.00 import duty and taxes on receiving the seat, still, it was still less expensive that a full price Touratech seat!

oK, so thanks for staying with me so far, there is a fly in the ointment though, I can’t get the seat to fit! Specifically, I can‘t get the seat to latch. I have spend a total of 6 hours trying to make it fit including swapping the latch with the stock seat, measuring every variable that I can, packing the latch with a washer or two and basically, ensuring the Touratech seat pan matches the stock seat pan exactly! The end result is the Touratech seat, even with a fight and a bit of force, simply refuses to latch whereas the stock seat does first time every time! Help! What have I missed? Any suggestions at all?

wow,

mines the same been like it for 5 yrs that i,ve had it, and can,t work it out, put the key in and it comes off ok, but trying to put it on and latch is a nightmare for me to i push it down you think click you then grab the front end by the tank and it lifts off, a few times i,ve sat on the seat so my weight sorts of pushes it down and clicks, its also loose even when clicked in place there is a bit of movement all round

i also think but not tried yet somebody said about the fron locking mechanism on the front of the seat to take it off and put a washer or 2 under that to make it longer and lock easier i was going to try this but not yet

The OE locks perfect, the TT’s is a fiddling indeed. I’ve got it on the high position and fiddled with the high and semi-high rubbers to make it catch. Now I’ve got the hang of it, it’s doable but not nearly as good as OE. It also wobbles a bit, but does not let go unwanted. Sorry to hear about your problems, maybe have a beer with Rob?

I think I will try swapping the Touratech rubbers for the stock rubbers tomorrow. Watch this space! (And yes, I do realise that “rubbers” may mean something quite different to our American cousins!) :)

I think to remember that Touratech actually advise to use the stock/oem rubber on their seat....
Hope it will work out at the end.

I tamponi in gomma della parte inferiore della sella devono essere smontati dalla sella originale per il riutilizzo oppure possono essere ordinati presso il proprio rivenditore

It doesn't make any sense to you but, from Touratech description of the seat, it says something like:
The inferior rubber from the stock seat have to be reused on the Touratech seat.
I guess all five(?) of them if I remember correctly..
Hope this helps.

Nice to know, but not especially encouraging, that I'm not the only one having this issue. Damndest thing, everything looks right, but it isn't. That, plus with everything set on low I'm still on tiptoes with the TT seat.

My corbin is pretty much the same, I have to push it rearward with the front of the seat lifted up to get good and wedged under the front edge of the rear seat, then push the front down and rearward with all my weight for it to click.

I am running a sergeant seat and finally found how it locks down.

I noticed if I'm not running the rear seat it locks down no worries.

So now I push it backwards firmly before pushing it down to lock. Now no problems.

My new Touratech seat came with 6 brand new rubbers installed, but I will try the stock rubbers later today. I have tried pushing it back but it depends on if it is in high or low position otherwise the pillion seat prevents this. I shall let you all know how it works out later today.

When I had mine it didn't come with any rubbers so I had to use the stock ones.

Well, after another couple of fruitless hours changing the Touratech rubbers with 2 different thicknesses of Yamaha rubbers including taking the rubbers out of my stock seat, the Touratech seat still won’t latch. Game over.

Sad news, have you tried putting a couple of washers under the latch? That's what did it for me.

Yes, tried that, in fact, the only way I can see this working for me now is to get the Touratech foam and cover put on the stock seat base! It has been a pretty frustrating few days!

Sounds like it

It might be worth speaking to Nick Plumb as he's only up the road from you. The other option is to speak to Rowan who worked on Rob's bike as he worked as the Touratech mechanic for a few years.
