Packed up bile to go back to new mexico. Battery dead. Jump started but would stay running after removing cables. Bought new battery. Starts great but where my odometer would be it shows 42. Check engine light is on. Any help would help

OP, you mentioned codes 42 and 43, here’s what the manual says. Note - Gen1 manual.

When you jump started it
Did it show the code?
If it didn't put back the old battery jump start and check if the code is on.

Before you do anythig else.
Sorry for the bad spelling and the bad grammar.

Something has been disturbed in the battery swap process. Tabasco's link in #2 would suggest you check the ABS fuses first, before worrying over the likes of ABS pumps & ECUs.

My first question is why did the battery go dead? (if you're not sure, look in to that issue)

After that, check the ABS fuses, since we know that you get the lack of speedo input when people pick the wrong fuse to switch off for ABS disable.

Good luck!

Have you checked all the fuses? I've seen fuses get blown when a battery is changed in both cars and bikes. Something accidently touches something it shouldn't have for a u-second and pop goes a fuse or two.
