I shut off and restarted bike several times but same thing, blinking cc light and cc does not work. any ideas what it could be ? any advise on what to do appreciated. thank you

Most likely suspect is the Front brake light switch, but man they are expensive - £135 in the UK.
You could try removing it and dosing it with contact cleaner, mine has been playing up and the contact cleaner definitely worked for a while, but I'm just going to have to bite the bullet soon and part with the dosh

Yep, Mine was the front brake light switch. You could see the brake light not going off when I'd disengage the front brake lever. Put a new one on and problem solved.

So I'm putting this here in case it helps someone. Coincidentally I was reading one of these cruise control threads over the weekend while on a trip. The very next day my cruise started acting up - flashing after I had been on the bike for a while. Restarting the bike cleared it for a while, then it came back. Based on what I'd read my thoughts went straight to the front brake switch.

I found a radio shack in the middle of nowhere and picked up a little can of electrical contact cleaner. Sprayed it into the hole on the underside of the brake switch and actuated the switch a bunch of times. This seems to have resolved it (at least for now, did about 1k miles afterward with no issue). I did the clutch switch too just because.

My advice is to add this to the list of preventives every oil change or two, just like checking spoke torque and greasing the shifter pivot.
