I sometimes ride with mine up to let air in. I went for short ride last week and had it down. Good thing I did a rock came off guy back tire and caught the corner of my shield.. if I had it up it would've been a bad day for me

On my first ride with my new RPHA90 two weeks ago I had the viser open riding through a town. Thought no problem as I'm wearing glasses and the bike has a windscreen. A wasp flew over the bike's screen, took a down slope, right into the helmet, and stung me next to my eye. Luckily I'm not allergic, that could have ended the camping trip two hours in ...

My shield is up unless it is raining. I love the air on my face. I also wear glasses, so my eyes are protected, and of course have a windshield. This is all at the cost of getting hammered at times by bugs, which it seems my new helmet is directing more bugs to my face then my old one.

About the only time I have my visor up, is in stop-n-go traffic; in town. Sometimes, when it's cool or humid, I keep it open about an inch to prevent fogging. I got used to the heat over the years, and as long as I'm moving, and my helmet has good venting.

I am also one with a bad habit of riding with faceshield open, a couple months ago while driving my SUV met a gravel truck and got hit by about 4 small rocks that cracked my windshield, got it fixed but since that happened I have been doing a better job closing my faceshield.
i happen to use an Arai XD helmet and it pretty rare to get a bug splat on the faceshield.
