Haven't pulled the trigger yet, but plan on a new Super Tenere ES within the next couple of months. Currently have a FJ-09 Yamaha (very fast, but not all day) and Triumph Bonneville, which I will keep--it's like a faithful old dog. Planning on retirement soon and want something to take me around to visit friends/family nationwide. Sold my KLR650 to buy the Yamaha because I rarely went off road and wanted to be able to pass other vehicles. This bike sounds like it should do whatever I want it to. Previous rides:
Honda 550
Yamaha RD400
BMW K1200 RS
After browsing the web site one day, it looks like a group I can relate to. Thanks for all the info.

Welcome from Texas. I was just expecting a bigger KLR when I got mine. The only similarities are that it has two wheels, a motor , and handlebars. It has become my favorite bike. . . . ever.

Welcome from the western part of your state. Use the cruise control to get west of Richmond then just hit the backroads. I live at the junction of the Skyline Drive & the Blue Ridge Parkway-pretty awesome no matter which way I go.

I used to have CBR900’s, R1’s, etc then switched to a gold wing for 8 years, was comfortable and reliable but I found it fairly boring to ride. I sold the wing and bought an ES Tenere and love it, changed the seat and it is brilliant, can ride all day, has great performance and can handle some light off road work when needed!! I am 6’2” and fitted some suspension links to raise the bike an inch and it handles a bit nicer, I also fitted an aftermarket seat and that made a big difference to the comfort. Added panniers and a GPS plus a taller front screen and the Yamaha side screens And it is just a pleasure to ride.. even in old blighty’s liquid sunshine weather you will enjoy it..

Welcome to the world of the Super Tenere.
It's often described as a swiss army knife, good at most things, but best at nothing.
I'm into my second riding season on my 2018 ES. I'll be 70 soon, but I'm enjoying the comfort and performance of the bike.
It's very stable on the expressways and good on gravel roads, I don't do off roads or trails, too big for me to pickup in the event of a drop.
Great touring bike, day trips and or long trips. Heated grips, cruise control..ah magic!!!
