Hello everyone,

A big day for me: I just picked up a 2012 Super Ténéré this morning. Black/w red Yamaha stripe. I've never owned anything like it or even anything I would consider a modern bike. My off-road experience is ancient history, but I sometimes ride unpaved roads on a road bike. The paved road per square mile ratio is pretty low here, and the many unpaved backroads have been mostly off limits to me--my main reason for buying this type of bike. Also, my commute is 33 miles; good road, but mostly over mountains populated by elk; swing shift so always riding home in the dark. I figured the S10's ABS just might save my butt some dark and stormy night.

I'm looking forward to all the information, stories, and wit on the forum and hope to contribute something useful occasionally. Thank you all for your posts, past and future.

Welcome and congrats on the new machine! I rode through the southern part of your state today...in fact I'm still in it for the night, in Deming, on my way to Bisbee, Arizona tomorrow.

If you are going to ride at night I suggest driving lights... I have the baja designs, but there are a lot of good ones out there. The S-Ten is weak in the lighting department...
Have fun and enjoy the new ride!

Congratulations on the new ride ! ABS on my 2013 saved me from a elk back in 2016 and that 100% convinced me how great ABS is on a motorcycle. Like Tombstone said the stock headlights on the Tenere ain’t nothing to brag about, upgraded mine to Cyclops LED they are a expensive improvement but considerably better than stock. Extra driving lights might be a better option but so far I haven’t tried that.
