Hi all.

I've been riding bikes for the last 20 years, and done around 400.000km on two wheels.

At the moment I ride a CB1000R on the street and a WR250R in the dirt.

I'm looking for a replacement for the Honda, and have narrowed the choices down to 3 bikes: Super Tenere, Tiger 800 and F800GS - I hope that this forum can help me pick the right bike...

Regards - Don T 8)

Hey Don, welcome!

The way I see it, your list is really between the Super Tenere and the Tiger 800, and I would narrow that further to just the Super Tenere, but I do have a soft spot for triples. ;) If you do some test riding, let us know what your thoughts are of each bike.

+1 from all I have read and experience, I don't think that I will ever seriously consider another BMW. Too much maintenance costs!

Hi Don, welcome to the site. I have a couple of Danish friends here in Oz.
I have an S10 and love it, but you will have to ride one yourself to really know. I mainly do sealed road riding and it is a fantastic tourer. It gives you confidence anywhere you take it, both in handling, power and reliability.
I didnt have that with any previous BMW's
Have fun deciding.

Thanks for the welcome.

Last year I rode the ST for half a day both on and off the tarmac - I really enjoyed the bike, but it is a big (and heavy) beast.
As soon the bike is roling you don't really feel the bulk, but it's not as nimble as the other two bikes I'm considering - on the other hand it has shaft drive, more power and better comfort.
Here's a few pictures from me test ride of the ST:

Another thing to consider is the price of the bikes here in Denmark, where there are 200% tax on motorcycles.
The F800GS and Tiger is around $30.000 and the ST is $44.000 ???

Wow! I now greatly appreciate why making the right choice is important.

Welcome to the forum Don!

Welcome aboard Don!!! Wow - you are very lucky to have had the opportunity to have that long of a test ride! Most of us here had NO test ride or the chance to even SEE the bike before we ordered!!

Good luck with which ever bike you chose.

Welcome Don,

I am trying to choose between the Super Tenere and Tiger 800 as well. I think if the s-10 was 100 lbs lighter there would be no contest. Also here in the US Tigers are sold at the HD dealerships. I never cared for most of them over the years. It has yet to be seen how may dealerships will take up triumph line. To much turnover in the employees and prices are high compared to the Yamaha shops.

Yamaha shops always seem to be more friendly. I can walk in to the Yamaha service department with a wheel to be balanced and $5 in my hand it walkout with a balanced wheel 15min later and they are happy I came by even if it was a 40 year old Harley wheel. Just a better vibe all round. Plus there seems to be 2 Yamaha shops for every HD shop.

Down to 20 days to decide. Raven Tenere or White Tiger. :)

It's easy to have a soft spot for triples. they are sweet running , my son has a 955i. The new 800 is nice looking more so if you ride single. I think the Super T will be a better choise for two up. Here is a picture of that Tiger 800 NICE!!!

The F800GS is last on my list (by quit a margin) - so the real battle is between the ST and the Tiger XC.

As my girlfriens ride her own bike (a 650 V-Strom at the moment), 99% of my riding will be solo.

No matter which of the bikes I end up with, it will be white - especially the ST looks sweet :p

Yes it is pretty. I might have to paint it. Doesn't look like much trouble.

I am headed to the Yamaha dealer on Thursday to see what kind of deal I can cut. But I am not paying MSRP. I think they have at least one S10 ordered for the store so I might get lucky with the delivery date but I am already set for the summer so it's not important to me.

Harley Dealer told me the 800 XC's were on the boat and should arrive in a few weeks.

The tax issue isn't as bad as it sounds.

It's expensive to buy a new bike in here in Denmark, but as used bikes are equally expensive, I don't have to add a lot of $$$ to replace my current ride.
- wages are also relatively high in Denmark, so all in all I have no reason to complain ;)

Reintroducing myself...

OK - more than 4 years has passed since I signed up as a member and last posted.

Much has happened since then.

In the fall of 2011 the new version of the 650 V-Strom was introduced at EICMA in Milan where I saw it and did a short test ride.
I really liked it and decided to get one which I did the following spring.

It served me well for 3 years.
We visited 28 countries on 3 continents together and did a total of 83.500km.
RR's from some of the trips I did on the V-Strom:
http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/a-bike-addict%C2%92s-escape-from-the-cold-%C2%96-leaving-denmark-bound-for-morocco%C2%85.877725/

http://advrider.com/index.php?threads/destination-istanbul-strangers-are-just-friends-you-havent-met-yet.1075043/

When the 2nd version of the S10 was launched in 2014 it rekindled my interest for the bike. Yamaha had fixed the things I didn't love about the first version and made a good bike even better.

In June this year I did a test ride of the new version and immediately fell in love.
I spend the next couple of weeks trying to sell the V-Strom and find a good deal on a S10.
The last part proved difficult as no dealers and not even the importer here in Denmark had one in stock.

Finally everything fell in to place.
The V-Strom found a new home and the Yamaha importer managed to get me a S10 from Germany.

I picked up the bike last Wednesday ::012::

Break-in is well underway and the farkling has begun.

I already love the bike and know that I made the right choice!

You will be seeing much more to me here on the forum in the future.
