I've been riding a KLR for the past few years and just bought a 2012 blue in color Super Tenere with 6500 miles. The Yamaha feels like a more refined KLR with a good bit more power. I rode the KLR on highway 550 through Colorado, the three sisters in Texas and rode a few 900 plus mile days on it. I'm looking to put Pelican top and side cases on the Tenere along with a skid plate and crash bars and ride it all over the place.

Welcome. As I'm sure you are finding out, the Tenere is definitely no KLR. Had one, liked it, expected the Tenere to just be a larger version. Not even close. Enjoy.

Hello. I am in Central Texas as well. Congrats on your new bike. Maybe I will see you around riding.

I'll be out quite a bit more after this reason stops. We need the rain but I need a couple riding days in between.

Were you pleasantly surprised or disappointed with the Tenere? My klr is sitting next to the new bike and I have no plans on selling it.

I was OMG pleasantly surprised. I had read about the features, knew about the dual throttle, and knew that it was a 600lb two cylinder dual purpose motorcycle. Well, in the real world, the end result is greater than the sum of the parts. I leave my throttle in "S", and have more than enough grunt for my 300lbs. Others will disagree. It weighs 600lbs, but, in MY opinion, feels as light as the KLR. And, depending on the bike/rider, it will embarrass many a sport bike. And she's built like a tank?! Yes please.

The awesome dealer I bought the bike from threw in a free new tire, so I rode there this morning to get a shinko 705 on the back. This afternoon I installed a 705 on the front in my garage. It still had the factory tires on it and even though they were mounted almost 7 years ago, they damn near fell off the bike and the new tires went on super easy compared to my klr. I stuck on an alt Rider rear rack and a pelican 1550 on top of that and am ready to ride when it quits raining.

I have happy trails pannier racks and two more 1550 cases en route along with a set of happy trails crash bars.

I love this bike so far.

Even though it's higher and heavier than a klr, it seems shorter and lighter.
