Heated Grips

Been looking at the 2014 Yamaha Super Tenere ES service manual and my eyes are bugging out. I found 2 capped connectors under the right side cover and a few inches of electrical wiring bundles.

The electrical schematic seems to indicate the 3 (wire) type connector is designed to be used with the OEM Yamaha Accessory Lights. (It is also the Eastern Beaver 3 Circuit S10 custom connection point.

Not sure what the 4 (wire) connector is for ... (Diagnostic port / service port) ... Does not seem to show any 4 hole connector (Capped / Unused) in the schematic.

So ... my guess if Yamaha sells OEM Accessory Lights and OEM Heated Grips ... the detailed OEM install instructions should clear up the used for the 2 capped connectors that are on the 2014 S10 ES (non California USA) model.

If anyone has bought the Yamaha OEM Accessory Lights / Heated Grips ... Please post a copy of the instructions (or a photo of such)

Thanks

(Attached is a photo of the 2 connectors (3 and 4 hole)

On the 14 there are a pair of 2 wire connectors to run the oem grips, they are tucked in a large harness cover up above the battery.

ditto what Gaps said. Mine were in the big rubber boot (funnel like thing) and took a little while to find

So unless the OEM heated Grip Install instructions say otherwise ...

On the USA 2014+ S10

The 3 hole capped connector is for the optional accessory lights and can be used for the Eastern Beaver Fuse Box / 3 Circuit connections. Worked for me.

The 4 hole capped connector is not used with the 2014+ heated grips
but is a "hang on" from the 2010-2013 OEM heated grips
(the 2014 Heated grips do not use it) .. Could be a good accessory point for another Eastern Beaver custom connector?

So to verify the above information for other future DYI ers.

Does anyone have the OEM instructions for;

1. 2010-2013 OEM Heated Grips?

2. 2010 - 2015 OEM Accessory lights?

I've purchased the Yamaha accessory LED PIAA LP530. There was no mention of using the 3 wire connector. I just connected it directly to the battery and then using one of the wire in the 3-wire loom as a switch source. This way the lights turn off when the ignition is turned off.

I have the PIAA LP530 kit and used the capped 3 pin connector you show.

I used the Electrical Connector Inc. connector, see attached.

See the way to wire up the connector to the PIAA harness.

I also bought the Denali single switch bracket form Twisted Throttle for the PIAA switch.

Thanks to the many posts on this thread, I found the three pronged plug under the right side everyone is talking about. I snipped the wires off the plug and tossed the plug. I used a mulltimeter and determined the brown wire is an ignition-switched wire. I used it to wire to the switched side of the Denali Power Block I got from Twisted Throttle. I now have my Garmin Zumo 595LM and Denali DR1 driving lights wired to the ignition switch with a minimum of a rat's nest of wires stuffed inside the right fairing covers.

Hi everyone. I just picked up a new leftover 2017 S10 non-ES. I am really excited to add this bike to my stable. I have an Africa Twin as well but the S10 will be my ADV tourer since it is way more comfortable! First addition are the oem heated grips. I purchased the parts individually, way cheaper than the kit and thanks for the forum for suggesting! That being said, does anyone have the instructions for installation as well as how to use the controls? My owners manual doesn't show the heated grips (since it isn't an ES) but I know the menu is available once the grips are detected. Thanks again. Will post pic of bike later. Literally, I just picked it up yesterday and haven't had any chance to drool on it. Had to give my wife some attention since I am now taking up more room in the Garage ;-) Alaska trip this June - S10 is going to be my steed.

Congrats on your '17 S10! I also purchased a leftover '17 non-es model in October. Just over 1,000 miles so far and absolutely love the bike! I had OEM heated grips installed by the dealer as I used them as leverage to make the purchase, but once they're installed, they're very intuitive to use. The little menu "trigger" on the left-side controls toggles between heated grips and the rest of the menu...then you have 3 settings for the grips (and you can even alter how hot each of the 3 settings are). They make a big difference riding here in Oregon! Enjoy your new bike.
