Mine is a 2010 First Edition with 71,000km on.
The only after market electrics is a set of LED spots and Oxford heated grips.
About a year ago I first noticed the headlights won't light up after the bike is started.
I replaced both bulbs and the fuse and did not have any issues after that, that I am aware of. I mostly only use my bike during daytime and do not check the headlights every time I use it.
One should, I suppose.
Anyway, fast-forward two months ago, I did a early 1,200km round-trip.
Left home at 4am, first refuel was at 07:30, when I noticed the headlights are dead again after I started the bike, post-refuel.
They where definitely working when I left at 4am.
Did my visit, the bike was start-stopped 3 times during the visit, to travel to different sites, did not check headlights, but they were dead the whole way back home, the last stretch of 200km in the dark with only my spots.
Right now, the head lights will not come on at all.
I have again replaced bulbs and fuse, no change.
So, before I give an autoelectrician a blank cheque, that I cannot afford right now, where would you clever guys suggest I start fault finding.
I have a decent multi-meter, I have the workshop manual in hardcopy.
I need to figure out, where does the signal for the headlights start.
I mean, when you turn the key to the ON position, the headlights don't come on until after the bike is running. Where is it controlled?
Any and all suggestions will be welcomed.
