I often wonder if the plexiglass stops any cooling effect and shortens bulb life as that can be a problem with heat buildup, think i'll go with the film .
I can't see how that could be the case. Any cooling isn't happening from the lens side. Besides, none of the plexiglass headlight guards are close to the lens. Plenty of air circulation going on. If anything, the film would reduce heat transfer. (I don't think either is a contributing factor to shorter bulb life.)

The primary reason for short bulb life is over driven aftermarket bulbs. The stockers usually last quite a while.

Nice idea, could be used in conjunction with a low cost metal protector (to protect from larger rock damage). Is the film easily removeable
It does use an adhesive on the back side of it, but it is fairly easy to remove. (I had to un-stick mine a couple times to get it positioned just right.)

I ordered the stick-on film from Lamin-X

They come pre-cut for the Tenere (although slightly large, so you have to trim with the blade) and in Clear or a number of other colors.

I didn't like the idea of having to remove the OEM-style "Safety Glasses" to clean behind them.

That's pretty awesome and in line with my initial plans for the lamp (I was going to make something like that). I'll keep it in mind if I kill the lens protector I have on now.
