Discoloration of 439 SS with heat is to be expected. Inconsistency is also common. I cannot tell you why, only that I have observed it on numerous identical exhaust SS parts run in side by side test beds with exactly the same protocol. Only difference being weather and the particular test bed.

Easiest thing for cleaning the material (if you care *L*) is Bar Keepers Friend. it is primarily oxalic acid and if used as directed, will not scratch the pipes. One of the things I like about Adventure Tourer's is ZERO chrome to polish. I have left my pipes "au natural"

I would be tickled pink for mine to show bluing. They are truly crusty. So crusty and built up in fact that the crusty has recently started to flake off some. Hopefully it will completely flake off and then they'll start the cycle again. LOL

I agree. I was told bluing was normal when I rode the Beemer, and now, with the Tenere. The look doesn't bother me, my only concern was that the engine was running correctly. Now all I have to worry about is my beautiful cobalt blue paint.

Out of the several boxer beemers I’ve had all showed equal bluing.

What’s the secret wax that works that magic?
There are no secrets. Use an intermediate or medium paste that is used to polish car paint. There are thick, medium and thin. Thin is used to give final shine, but they have wax or silicones that will burn with heat.
When I removed de motorcycle to the dealer, a lady passed a rag to the entire motorcycle, including the exhausts. The rag would have silicone. The issue that when I get to my house, the exhaust were blue. So, probe and probe until eliminate the BLUE

yes, it does not last long. But it´s like it turns blue where it gets stained with something, like asphalt, mud, oil. where it does not stain, the Golden color stays. like, i do not look at it. only ride, and from time to time, I put sometime to polish the exhausts, wich is the only thing that has to polish

Was the TB sync'ed? The leaner ones runs hotter than the other, and this could be causing the uneven color.

BTW, nice polished headers. Inspiring me to do mine.

I would use a temp gun to measure the exhaust temps at idle,
2000 RPM, and 4000 Rpm, to see if the cylinders are running evenly.
